BGSU Baseball Adds 10 On National Signing Day
November 17, 2021 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team added 10 players to the team's future roster on National Signing Day, announced Head Coach Kyle Hallock.Â
"The 2022 recruiting class is a deep and highly touted collection of young men," said Coach Hallock. "This group features 10 baseball players, five pitchers and five position players from Ohio, Michigan and Canada. This incoming class of Falcons will arrive on campus with high expectations after leading their respective high schools on and off the field. These 10 will provide us with the depth and positional competition that we need to take the next step forward in our quest to play championship level baseball."
Â
Kade Arn - RHP - Benjamin Logan High School; Bellefontaine, Ohio
Arn was an instrumental piece in Benjamin Logan High School's recent success. On the mound, Arn posted a combined 12-1 record between the 2019 and 2021 season, aiding his team to a 12-4 conference record in 2019 and 15-1 in 2021, winning the conference both seasons. As a junior, Arn posted an ERA of 0.40 while logging 75 strikeouts. The impressive season helped Arn earn First Team All-Conference and First Team PBR All-State recognition.Â
Â
Coach Hallock: "Kade Arn has the one of the best change ups in Ohio. It's not often you see a high schooler throw right on right change ups, but he can do it in any count. He is very hard to score on because he doesn't give in to hitters and always seems to make the big pitch. There was a point in the summer where Kade produced 33 consecutive innings without allowing a run against high end competition, so we are excited to see him transition to the MAC."
Â
Brady Birchmeier - INF - New Lothrop High School; New Lothrop, Mich.
Birchmeier will bring a power bat to Bowling Green after a long list of accolades at New Lothrop High School. As a junior, Birchmeier belted 15 home runs in 111 at-bats while maintaining a .595 batting average over 37 games. He totaled 66 hits over that time, logging 76 RBI, 26 doubles, a pair of triples, 29 walks and 72 runs scored. Those statistics helped Birchmeier be named First Team All-State, the Area Player of the Year, PBR All-American Team and a nominee for the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year.
Â
Coach Hallock: "Brady Birchmeier is the best right-handed hitter in the state of Michigan for the 2022 class and one of the best in the Midwest region. When you watch him hit you notice his hands and bat path are next level traits. He has light-tower-power and can leave the park on any swing. We project Brady to develop into a middle of the order bat and one of the most feared hitters in the MAC during his time here at BGSU."
Â
Leo Hearn - C - Forest Hills Eastern High School; Ada, Mich.
A 6-foot-2 catcher, Hearn brings success on both the baseball and football fields, being named All-Conference for both sports in 2021. On the diamond, Hearn helped his team capture a conference title in 2021, posting a 20-1 conference record while being 29-11 overall. Playing summer ball, Hearn led his team in doubles while being second for both batting average and home runs.
Â
Coach Hallock: "Leo Hearn is a left-handed hitting catcher who hits for power, a rarity to find at the high school level. Leo has the ability to drive the baseball to all parts of the park, while also playing a premium defensive position in catcher. He is a lead-by-example type of player who can change the flow of a game on either side of the ball. Leo's physicality will serve him well and we believe his best days of baseball are ahead of him here at BG."
Â
Luke Krouse - LHP - Antwerp High School; Antwerp, Ohio
Krouse comes to the Falcons after helping his team reach the State Final Four as a freshman in 2019 and then the Sweet 16 as a junior in 2021. He was named All-Conference as both a freshman and a junior, adding First Team All-District and First Team All-State recognitions as a junior.Â
Â
Coach Hallock: "Luke Krouse is one of the best big game pitchers in Ohio. We first saw him pitch his team to an OHSAA State Final Four berth as a freshman with a legendary performance. Luke is a local product who has deception to his delivery that allows his current stuff to play up and miss bats. Luke will be an impact guy for us because he commands his fastball to both sides of the plate and features swing-and-miss secondary offerings."
Â
Carson Lumley - RHP/OF - Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School; London, Ontario Canada
Lumley joins the Falcons as a three-time baseball national champion in Canada. He was named the high school Athlete of the Year in 2019 while also being named the Baseball Ontario Pitcher of the Year in both 2018 and 2019. As for at the plate, he posted six home runs along with a batting average of .530 in the shortened COVID season. In the same year he maintained an ERA of 0.53 and struck out 56.Â
Â
Coach Hallock: "Carson Lumley is the top right-handed pitcher from across the border out of Canada. Carson has a plus fastball, a tight breaking ball and the ability to swing it at the plate too. He has been a big name on the Canadian national scene for a couple years and comes from a family of hard throwing pitchers. We see Carson blossoming into a high-level player in our conference because he is talented, works extremely hard and has a desire to be great."
Â
Perry Miller - RHP - Avon Lake High School; Avon Lake, Ohio
Miller will come to Bowling Green following a strong high school baseball career at Avon Lake. During the 2021 season as a junior, Miller tossed 33.1 innings from the bump, including a no-hitter. Over the course of the season, he posted a 1.47 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP while striking out 49 en route to a 4-0 record.
Â
Coach Hallock: "Perry Miller has one of the best curveballs in the state of Ohio. Perry works with quick tempo, has a fast arm and controls the flow of the game beyond the high school level. Perry burst onto the scene last spring with some great performances. He will become a big contributor for us because of his fearless approach and his pitch ability to different parts of the strike zone."
Â
D.J. Newman - RHP/OF - Archbold High School; Archbold, Ohio
Newman will be one of two players in the class to have the opportunity to play both the field and pitch. At Archbold High School, Newman was a three-sport athlete being First Team All-State in baseball, Second Team All-District in football and Honorable Mention All-State in basketball. On the diamond, Newman tallied 15 doubles and 30 RBI while averaging .509 at the plate as a junior. He also struck out 96 when he toed the rubber with just 15 walks while posting an ERA of 1.96.Â
Â
Coach Hallock: "D.J. Newman is a fast twitch all-around athlete that has the skill set to hit and pitch in the MAC. He led his baseball team to the state championship game last year and directed the football team to a historic season this fall. On the mound, D.J. has good arm speed and a solid shape to his breaking ball. Offensively, he squares up pitches consistently at the plate and cuts the bases with plus speed. We are thrilled D.J. elected to bring his pedigree of success to BGSU."
Â
Christian Ramos - OF - St. Edward High School; Lorain, Ohio
Ramos was a two-sport athlete for St. Edward High School, quarterbacking the team and being named the District Player of the Year. On the diamond, Ramos has the ability to play both the infield and outfield.Â
Â
Coach Hallock: "Christian Ramos is one of the top multi-sport athletes in Ohio. He is currently quarterbacking the No. 1 football team in the state of Ohio and can play any of the infield or outfield spots defensively on the baseball diamond. Christian brings a physical presence to the field, plays the game fast and will be able to utilize a rare combination of power and speed to impact games during his career at Steller Field."
Â
Sam Seidel - INF - South Central High School; Greenwich, Ohio
Seidel comes to Bowling Green after posting an impressive 2021 season as a junior. At the conclusion of the season, Seidel was named First Team All-District, First Team All-Conference and the Firelands Conference Player of the Year. He was also named First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-District in 2019 as a freshman.Â
Â
Coach Hallock: "Sam Seidel is one of the top baseball players in our state. On the field, there isn't much Sam can't do. He's been able to handle Division I pitching at the plate since his freshman year. Sam can play in the middle of the field and his compact swing allows him to string together competitive at bats. His attitude and skill set fits our mold, and he will make us more dynamic during his four years in our dugout."
Â
Jacob Turner - RHP - St. Clair High School; St. Clair, Mich.
Turner was a multi-sport athlete in high school, competing in cross country and power lighting in addition to baseball. Turner was named the No. 9-ranked right-handed pitcher in Michigan for the Class of 2022 by Prep Baseball Report.Â
Coach Hallock: "Jacob Turner possesses one of the best fastballs in Michigan. The combination of his heater's high spin rate and velocity makes it a swing-and-miss pitch. Jacob has always performed well on the big stage and we believe he has the ability to do that consistently at our level. Jacob utilizes his secondary pitches with command to complete a quality arsenal. He will be a major asset and move us in the right direction on the mound."
