Falcons Open 2022 With Conference Victory Over Tommies

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bowling Green Falcons (10-8-3, 7-5-1-0) opened 2022 with a 4-2 victory over the St. Thomas Tommies (1-20-0, 1-14-0). The teams traded the first four scores and entered the final regulation period in a 2-2 tie. Taylor Schneider gave the Falcons the lead with a power play score, then Anton Malmstrom secured the win with an empty net goal, assisted by Schneider. The game, Bowling Green's first in St. Thomas Ice Arena, resumed CCHA play for the Falcons.

Scoring Plays
- The Falcons were on the board first, with Nathan Burke capitalizing on a rebound in front of the net. Bowling Green fired several shots, with Burke finding the back of the net eight minutes into the opening frame. T.J. Lloyd and Max Coyle earned the assists.
- St. Thomas responded with a goal with a little over four minutes remaining in the period. Kimball Johnson flicked in an open shot, with assists going to Matthew Jennings and Cameron Recchi.
- Ryan O'Hara put the Falcons back in front with his first period goal. O'Hara netted a shot from the left crease just 16 seconds after BGSU killed a penalty. Spencer Schneider, who made a nifty pass from the goal line, was credited with the assist.
- The Tommies evened the score again near the midway point of the second period. Just four seconds after a failed power play opportunity, Cameron Recchi netted the puck from the crease. Logan Ommen earned the assist.
- Bowling Green regained the lead with a power play goal by Taylor Schneider. With 12 minutes remaining in regulation, the senior scored from the left circle after a relentless attack from the Falcons' power play unit. The lone assist went to Alex Barber.
- With two seconds remaining, Anton Malmstrom controlled the puck after a frantic scramble and clinched the Falcon victory with an empty net score. Taylor Schneider earned the assist.
Falcon Facts
- Nathan Burke scored his team-best 12th goal of the season. Four of his 12 goals have been Bowling Green's first of the game. The senior has 25 goals and 44 points in his collegiate career.
- Taylor Schneider's goal was his seventh of the season and his fourth power play score this year. The senior is tied with Burke and Barber for the team lead in power play goals.
- Schneider also added an assist, his 21st point of the year. This moves him into a tie with Austen Swankler for the team lead. Schneider also tied Swankler for the team lead in assists with 14.
- Schneider's multi-point performance was his team-best eighth of the season. The senior has 74 points and 15 multi-point performances in his career.
- Anton Malmstrom scored his third goal of the season, giving him four points on the year. The sophomore has four career goals and seven career points.
- Freshman Ryan O'Hara scored his first collegiate goal, giving him four career points.
- Alex Barber notched his 11th assist of the season, giving him 19 points this year. The captain has 79 career points, the most among active players.
- T.J. Lloyd tallied an assist, his eighth of the season and 30th of his career. The junior has nine points this season and 34 in his career.
- Max Coyle's assist was his second of the season and third of his BGSU career. The defenseman has three points this season, four as a Falcon, and eight in his collegiate career.
- Spencer Schneider tallied an assist as well, giving him two on the season. The freshman has three points in his career.
- In his sixth consecutive start, Christian Stoever spent the entire game in net and made 19 saves.Â
