- Ohio State started the scoring 71 seconds into the game. A rush from the Buckeyes led to a shot from Matt Cassidy that hit the pipe on the right side. It rebounded directly to Joe Dunlap, who knocked it in for the game's opening score. Assists went to Cassidy and Scooter Brickey.
- Less than a minute later, OSU added to the lead with another goal on the rebound. This time, Tate Singleton had his shot saved by Christian Stoever. The puck snuck past Stoever and sat in the crease, then Davis Burnside skated behind him and shoved it across the goal line. Singleton and Stephen Halliday earned the assists.
- Halfway through the first, the Buckeyes scored a power play goal. OSU forced a turnover as the Falcons attempted to enter the zone, with Dominic Vidoli poking it to Joe Dunlap. He made a nifty move to his backhand as he skated between the circles, flicking in the puck for his second goal of the night. Vidoli had the lone assist.
- A couple minutes later, Ohio State tallied another goal. Jake Wise won a faceoff in the left circle of their offensive zone, with Michael Gildon securing the puck. His shot from the bottom of the circle went top shelf for the goal, with Wise earning the lone assist.

- Later in the second, OSU scored on the power play. After working the puck around the zone, Cole McWard sent a pass to Halliday. His shot from the right dot hit twine, with assists going to McWard and Mason Lohrei.
- With exactly three minutes left in the second, the Buckeyes scored on a 2-on-1 chance. Singleton secured the puck after a faceoff in the BGSU offensive zone, then raced up the ice with Burnside. Singleton's pass to Burnside gave him a look on the left side, which he knocked in for the goal.
- The Falcons scored their first goal of the night with two and a half minutes left in the second. Chase Gresock sent the puck at the net from the right corner, where it bounced off of Jakub Dobes. - Before the period ended, Ohio State scored. This time it was Brickey connecting on a shot from the blue line, with assists going to Cassidy and Dunlap.
