Falcons Migrate North For Midweek Matchup With Michigan State
March 28, 2022 | Baseball
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University baseball program will be back on the road this Tuesday (March 29), matching up against the Michigan State Spartans. Held at McLane Stadium at Kobs Field, this one-game set will be a short break from Mid-American Conference play for the Falcons.
The Falcons are coming off their first two home games of the season, where they went 1-1 against Ohio University. The win in Friday's game marked the first MAC win for Bowling Green this season behind a 14-run offensive outburst. A win against the Spartans would provide the Falcons positive momentum going into a four-game weekend series against the Akron Zips at Steller Field this upcoming weekend.
Current Schedule
Tuesday, March 29 | 4:05 p.m. | vs. Michigan State
Projected Starting Pitchers
Bowling Green: Peyton Wilson
Michigan State: Ryan Szczepaniak
Scouting The Spartans
Michigan State holds an 11-9 record going into the game against the Falcons. Their last action came against Illinois in a weather-affected three-game series. The Spartans went 1-2 in that series, their first in Big Ten play. The Spartans scored only 10 runs in the three games while conceding 23 to the Illini.
Against Michigan State All-Time
The Falcons and the Spartans have met 12 times on the diamond, with Michigan State leading the all-time series 8-4. It's been just over 10 years since the last matchup on March 27, 2012, where the Spartans were 13-3 victors in East Lansing. The first time the two met was in 1984, with the Spartans winning, this time 17-1.
Last Time Out
Originally scheduled to be a four-game series, the Falcons' series against Ohio was cut short due to cold weather. The Falcons took the first game 14-2 behind a balanced, yet potent, offense and excellent pitching from Gage Schenk (6.1 IP, 2 ER, 12 K). The outburst of offense saw four Falcons have a multi-hit game, including three hits from both Adam Furnas and Nathan Archer. Archer came just a home run short of hitting for the cycle. The second game saw the Falcons lose 21-6, including an 11-run fourth inning for the Bobcats. Furnas continued his hot streak at the plate though, racking up another three hits in the contest.
