April 21, 2022 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball program will welcome the Western Michigan Broncos to Steller Field this weekend for the second consecutive home series for the Falcons. Bowling Green and Western Michigan will play a four-game series as the Orange and Brown look to rebound from last weekend's series against Central Michigan. Despite the unfavorable results for BGSU, the Falcons put up multiple positive performances that will create momentum against the Broncos.

At The Ballpark
This weekend will be Alumni Weekend for the Falcons. BGSU Baseball will be recognizing the 2002 team that captured the MAC Championship 20 years ago. Other themes throughout the weekend will be Superhero Day on Friday (April 22), Sandlot on Saturday (April 23) and Day At The Beach on Sunday (April 24).
Scouting The Broncos
Western Michigan is yet another team that got off to a slow start but has rebounded from that in MAC play. Despite their 12-21 overall record, their 9-10 MAC standing means they are in sixth within the conference. Their last game was a rescheduled one against Ball State, where they lost 14-2 in eight innings. Before that, they had a weekend series against Miami (OH), where they split with the RedHawks.
Against Western Michigan All-Time
The all-time record sits at 66-92 in favor of Western Michigan. The first matchups came in 1947, when the Broncos ran out victorious twice in two days. These two played last season, splitting a four-game series in Kalamazoo. The Broncos took the first two, but the Falcons rebounded from those losses to win games three and four of the series.
Quick Facts
Last Time Out
The Falcons are coming off a tough four-game series at Steller Field against the MAC-best Central Michigan Chippewas. The Chippewas took all four games, but those games weren't without bright moments for the Falcons. High winds took over game one of the series, resulting in a wild 18-11 scoreline. Adam Fallon had four hits and three RBI, while Nathan Archer had three hits and three RBI. Archer and Kyle Gurney homered for the Falcons. Game two saw good pitching from Peyton Wilson and Jeremy Spezia. However, Central Michigan kept knocking and eventually burst through the door, resulting in a six-run seventh. The lone run for the Falcons came on a pinch-hit home run for Jared Johnson in the seventh.
Game three was also closer than the final 9-4 score would suggest. The Falcons were within two runs heading into the sixth inning. Once the sixth came around, Central Michigan slowly extended their lead and finished things off. Nathan Rose was a highlight performer though, as he went 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles. The series finale started as a pitchers' duel, as things were scoreless heading into the fifth. Andrew Abrahamowicz struck out seven in the first three innings of the game, but the Chippewas weren't willing to give up any runs either. Eventually, a six-run fifth for the Chippewas was enough to put them ahead.
