BGSU Baseball To Close Out Season Against NIU

DeKALB, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University baseball program will stay on the road to finish their season with a four-game conference series against the Northern Illinois Huskies. Both teams come in neck-and-neck in the MAC standings with BGSU at 12-22 and NIU at 11-23. After a hard series against a ranked opponent in Rutgers, the Falcons will look to end the season on a high note at Ralph McKinzie Field.
BGSU comes off a series defeat to now No. 25 Rutgers at Bainton Field in Piscataway, N.J. This series against NIU will see the end of the season for both teams but will also determine their finishing spot in the MAC with BGSU currently in ninth and NIU in 10th.

Scouting The Huskies
The Northern Illinois Huskies welcome the Falcons to DeKalb, Ill. after a 3-1 series loss to Toledo. The Huskies were able to take the first game of the series 8-1, but were ultimately outscored 25-4 in the final three games. On the statistics side, NIU's Carlos Aranda is currently eighth in walks drawn in the MAC this season with 29. The Huskies sit 10th in the MAC with only Akron behind them in the standings.
Against Northern Illinois All-Time
The Falcons and Huskies have faced each other a total of 61 times since 1968. The current series record sits at 36-24-1 with BGSU leading the all-time series. The two teams last faced off in 2021 in a four-game series in Bowling Green which was a high scoring battle, totaling 38 runs over the course of the series with all but one game being decided by just one run. BGSU won the series 3-1.

The Falcons went up against a nationally-ranked opponent in No. 25 Rutgers, No. 21 at the time of the series, at their home field in a three-game series. Rutgers took advantage of the home field winning the series 2-0.
Game one was a Rutgers win 12-5. BGSU was able to put up three runs in the fourth inning off a balk and a two-run home run by Justin Fugitt. Rutgers stopped the comeback attempt with a trio of three-run innings and a run in all but two innings over the game to take the victory.
The second game of the series was a 21-1 Rutgers win. Jack Krause hit a single to bring home Kyle Gurney in the seventh to plate BGSU's run.
