HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons offense came out quickly. Sam Seidel drew a leadoff walk before Kyle Gurney singled to put runners at the corners. Nathan Rose took the opportunity and knocked a single to center, scoring Seidel to give BGSU the first run of the game, leading 1-0.
- Seidel continued a strong start to his day with a solo home run in his second at-bat, coming with two outs in the top of the second to extend the BGSU lead to 2-0.
- The runs continued in the third for Bowling Green. Tyler Ross drew a walk followed by a Nathan Archer single up the middle to put runners at the corners. Archer stole second and an error on the throw down allowed Ross to score with Archer moving up to third.
- Gavin Ganun followed with another walk before taking second on a wild pitch. Cooper McKenzie then grounded out, but it was enough for Archer to score, giving the Falcons 4-0 advantage going into the bottom of the third.
- Purdue Fort Wayne tallied their first runs of the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third to close the gap to 4-3.
- The Mastodons added another run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4.
- The Falcons reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth. Mason Montgomery and Parker Hydrick were both hit by pitches to put two on. Seidel grounded into a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners. Montgomery was able to score from third on a wild pitch to push BGSU ahead 5-4 while Seidel moved all the way from first to third on the pitch.
- Seidel's base running became key soon after. After Gurney drew a walk to put runners on the corners once again, a balk pushed Seidel across the plate to increase the BGSU lead to 6-4.
- In the seventh, Archer reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Archer stole third and a throwing error on the play allowed Archer to take home as well, making it a 7-4 advantage for Bowling Green.
