Falcons Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short In Series Finale Against Central

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team's ninth inning push came up short against Central Michigan on Sunday (April 2) in the series finale. CMU tallied two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead. The Falcons responded with one run in the top of the ninth, but couldn't register a second, falling 4-3. Despite the loss, Bowling Green still takes the series over the three-time defending MAC Champions after picking up wins on Friday and Saturday. The Falcons stand 11-14 on the season and 6-6 within the MAC.

The Falcons will head back to the state of Michigan for their next game, taking on the Michigan State Spartans in the midweek game. BGSU and MSU are slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday (April 5) at McLane Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Central Michigan scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly.
- The Falcons quickly tallied a run in response. Nathan Archer led off the top of the second with a triple down the right field line. Tyler Ross was able to knock a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Archer and tying the game at 1-1.
- The Chippewas reclaimed their lead in the bottom of the fourth, going up 2-1.
- The Falcons once again tied the game, this time in the top of the sixth. Ryan Johnston was hit by a pitch to start the inning followed by Sam Seidel reaching on a fielder's choice. Seidel advanced to second on a ground ball before scoring on a Nathan Rose double down the left field line to make it 2-2.
- Central Michigan moved back in front in the bottom of the eighth, leading 4-2 going into the ninth.
- The Falcons made a push in the top of the ninth, Kyle Gurney singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Archer, but the rally would end there with the 4-3 final.

- Kyle Gurney singled to begin the ninth inning, pushing his hitting streak to 11 games for the Orange and Brown.
- With his second inning triple, Nathan Archer extended his streaks at the plate to an eight-game hitting streak and 10-game on-base streak. He's also scored in seven of BGSU's last nine games.
- Gavin Ganun recorded a hit in each game of the weekend series, finishing 4-for-11 (.364) with two RBI and two runs scored.
