BGSU Baseball To Begin Battle Of I-75 With Midweek Matchup

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team will begin the Battle of I-75 against Toledo on Wednesday (April 26) with a midweek matchup before resuming the series in May. Wednesday's game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Scott Park. The series will pick back up on May 18 at 3 p.m. before moving to Fifth Third Field on May 19 with a 7 p.m. start and concluding on May 20 at 2 p.m. All four games of the season series will be broadcasted on both BCSN and ESPN3/+ with this week's game being on ESPN+.

Scouting Toledo
Toledo enters the week holding a record of 18-21 on the season while being 8-10 within the Mid-American Conference. Before facing the Falcons on Wednesday, UT will travel further down I-75, playing at Dayton on Tuesday (April 25) for a 3 p.m. first pitch. The Rockets have won three of their last four, topping Michigan 10-7 before taking two of three from Eastern Michigan over the weekend. UT is paced by Jeron Williams who is batting .381 on the season with eight doubles, three triples and six home runs in addition to a nation-leading 35 stolen bases.

The BGSU-Toledo baseball rivalry is one of the oldest in program history, dating back to the 1921 season. Over the history of the rivalry, the two teams have played 231 times with four more games on the schedule this season. The Falcons took on the Western Michigan Broncos over the weekend in Kalamazoo. BGSU was paced at the plate by freshman DJ Newman in the leadoff role. Over the three-game series, Newman maintained a .556 batting average, logging five hits in nine at-bats. He added four walks and was hit by a pitch for a .714 on-base percentage. Newman scored three times for the Falcons while adding a pair of doubles and a stolen base to his stat line.

- This will be BGSU's third game broadcasted on BCSN. So far this season, the Falcons are 1-1 when playing on BCSN, falling to Kent State 4-2 and topping Eastern Michigan 11-9.

- As a pitching staff, Bowling Green has allowed the fewest walks in the MAC this season with 148. BGSU is also third for earned runs behind only Kent State and Central Michigan.
- Bowling Green is one of just two teams with three players in the Top 12 in the MAC for on-base percentage, joining Kent State. DJ Newman is 10th with a mark of .452 followed by Sam Seidel in 11th at .450 and Kyle Gurney 12th at .444.

- Tyler Ross has a nine-game on-base streak for the Orange and Brown.
- Nathan Rose added to his doubles total over the weekend, now at 13 which ranks sixth in the MAC. Rose needs two more to set a new career-high for doubles in a season. If Rose can reach 16, he'll enter the BGSU record book for doubles in a season, tied for 10th.
- Leighton Banjoff is currently on a six-game on-base streak. Over the streak, Banjoff has drawn nine walks and has been hit by a pitch twice.
- Jacob Turner has not allowed an earned run in eight consecutive appearances spanning nine innings. During the stretch, Turner has tallied nine strikeouts.
- Gage Schenk enters the week needing three more strikeouts to add his name to the BGSU record book for career strikeouts. Schenk has tallied 174 and needs 177 to tie Burke Badenhop for 10th all-time in program history.
