Archer, Seidel Homer Again As Falcons Fall Short In Sunday Rubber Match
April 30, 2023 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team concluded the weekend series against the Ball State Cardinals on Sunday (April 30). After a brief 15-minute delay to the start of the game due to rain earlier in the day, the game got underway. A five-run second inning jump started the Ball State offense. The Falcons chipped away with three runs in the bottom of the inning, including Nathan Archer's fourth home run of the weekend, to make it a 5-3 score. Each team added a solo home run later in the game, BSU's coming in the seventh and BGSU's in the eighth off the bat of Sam Seidel, for the 6-4 final. The loss puts Bowling Green at 15-25 on the season while being 9-15 within the Mid-American Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ball State scored the first runs of the game in the top of the second, scoring five runs including a three-run home run to move out 5-0.
- Nathan Archer responded in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to right field, his fourth of the weekend. The call was originally foul, but was overturned to give Archer the round-trip.
- Nathan Rose and Justin Fugitt followed with singles, including both runners moving up on a fielding error in the outfield on Fugitt's hit. Ryan Johnston hit a single into the hole at shortstop, scoring Rose. A throwing error on the play trying to get Johnston at first was enough for Fugitt to score as well, making it a 5-3 score after two innings.
- The Cardinals utilized a solo home run in the top of the seventh to stretch their lead to 6-3.
- Sam Seidel started the bottom half of the eighth inning with a towering home run, clearing the trees beyond the right field fence to make it a 6-4 score.
