BGSU To Face Fighting Irish Tuesday, Host Golden Grizzlies Wednesday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team has a pair of midweek matchups, traveling to face Notre Dame on Tuesday (May 2) and hosting Oakland on Wednesday (May 3). The Falcons and Fighting Irish are scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch in South Bend on Tuesday before a 3 p.m. start against the Golden Grizzlies on Wednesday at home at Steller Field. Bowling Green enters the week with a 15-25 overall record while being 9-15 within the Mid-American Conference.

Scouting Notre Dame
Notre Dame has won seven of their last nine games, including taking two of three from Florida State over the weekend, outscoring the Seminoles 26-13 over the course of the series. BGSU will be the second MAC team that Notre Dame has faced this season, picking up a 2-1 victory over Western Michigan on April 19.
Against The Fighting Irish All Time
Tuesday will mark the first meeting between Bowling Green and Notre Dame since the 2009 season, a game that the Fighting Irish won 11-6. All-time, the series favors Notre Dame at 36-22-1. The last win for the Falcons in the series came during the 2006 campaign, topping the Fighting Irish 11-8 in South Bend.
Scouting Oakland
Oakland is coming off a win against Wright State on Sunday (April 3) with a 6-3 win, snapping a three-game losing streak. Since the last meeting, Oakland has gone 5-3 with a win over Eastern Michigan and a sweep of Youngstown State. Ian Cleary leads the Golden Grizzlies with a .324 batting average with team-highs in hits (45), RBI (29) and doubles (14).

Wednesday's meeting will mark the 26th meeting all-time between Bowling Green and Oakland with the Orange and Brown holding a 19-6 advantage in the series. The two teams first met in 1979 with the Falcons sweeping a May 1 doubleheader at home. The Falcons went on to win the first seven meetings between the two. The last meeting came earlier this season on April 18 with BGSU taking a 16-4 final behind a program-record 15 walks.

- Nathan Archer heads into the week tied for fourth in the nation for sacrifice flies with seven. Two players are tied at the top with nine and one has eight.
- Over the weekend, Archer hit four home runs over the three-game series. All seven of Archer's home runs have come in the last nine games. He also is in the midst of a 13-game on-base streak. - Gage Schenk enters the week tied with Burke Badenhop for 10th all-time in program history for career strikeouts with 177. Schenk needs 179 to tie Kyle Knoblauch for ninth, 183 to tie Jason Tippie for eighth, 184 for seventh with Keith Laughlin, 185 for sixth with Jason Kelley and 186 to match Andrew Abrahamowicz for fifth.
