Breaking Down Bowling Green
The Falcons had a successful showing at the Oliver Nikoloff Invite in Cincinnati, totaling 13 top five finishes, including 10 that placed in the top three. Mateya Haintz kicked off the weekend with a first-place finish in the hammer throw, reaching a mark of 195-3.00 (59.52m) that ranks her fourth in school history, first in the MAC, and 42nd in the NCAA. The next day, BGSU's relay teams placed first and second in the 4x400 relay, as well as second in the 4x100 relay. The triple jump trio of Bianca Staples, Brianna Richard, and Sabrina Imes placed first, second, and third, respectively, with Staples entering the top 10 in program history with her jump of 39-1.75 (11.93m). Also tallying runner-up finishes in field events were Morgan Patterson (long jump) and Reagan Emberton (shot put). Distance runners Kylee Cubbison (4th, 5K) and Kristin Groppe (5th, 3K Steeplechase) had strong finishes, as did sprinters DaMya Barker (3rd, 100 Hurdles) and Jemeila Hunter (4th, 100). Barker and Hunter each ran for the runner-up 4x100 team and the champion 4x400 team.
Thrower Zaresha Neal also had an impressive weekend competing at the Texas Relays. She placed 10th in the shot put and discus, recording the MAC's best mark of the season in both events. Her discus mark of 179-1.00 (54.58m) is second-best in school history, trailing her own school record by less than 1.00m. Her shot put mark of 53-0.00 (16.15m) is 17th in school history, with the only better marks being recorded by herself and Aliyah Gustafson. For her efforts, Neal was named MAC Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this outdoor season, fifth time in 2023, and seventh time in her career.
