Falcons Clinch Spot In MAC Tournament For First Time Since 2015 Despite Sunday Loss

Miami (OH) Win, NIU Loss Punches MAC Tourney Ticket for Bowling Green
KENT, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team fell to the Kent State Golden Flashes on Sunday (April 28) in seven innings with a 12-2 final. Despite the outcome, results from around the MAC fell in favor of the Falcons, resulting in BGSU punching their ticket to the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2015. Bowling Green will now return home for their five contests, consisting of two midweek non-conference games before hosting Western Michigan next weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first, Tyler Ross drew a walk to begin the second inning. A double off the bat of Jack Krause put two runners in scoring position. Leighton Banjoff stepped up and doubled off the left field wall, scoring both Ross and Krause for a 2-0 BGSU lead.
- Kent State answered in the bottom half but a Krause laser got the go-ahead run at home to keep the score at 2-2 entering the third.
- The Golden Flashes added three to push ahead 5-2 and force a BGSU change on the mound.
- KSU added a run after the change to carry a 6-2 lead into the fourth.
- Kent State added a pair of runs in the fifth inning to move the score to 8-2.
- A solo home run in the sixth for the Golden Flashes made it a 9-2 tally.
- Kent State tallied three in the seventh to push the score to the 12-2 final.

- With results from around the conference, the Falcons clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2015.
- With a double to begin the seventh inning, Sam Seidel continued his on-base streak, reaching in all 30 games he's played in this season. Going back to last year, Seidel has reached in 41 straight contests.
- DJ Newman doubled in the third inning to push his hitting streak for the Falcons to 14 games.
- Jack Krause doubled in the second inning to extend his on-base streak to 27 games for the Orange and Brown. Leighton Banjoff ripped a double in the second inning to push his on-base streak to 14.
- Nathan Archer now has a nine-game on-base streak, including drawing a walk in seven consecutive games.
- Garrett Wright has reached base in nine straight for the Falcons and was hit by a pitch for the 16th time this season, the most for a Falcon in at least the last 20 years.
