February 21, 2026 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (16-9-7, 13-7-4 CCHA) used a short-handed goal by Dominik Rymon with 7:16 left to play to force overtime with the No. 17 Minnesota State Mavericks (17-9-6, 13-7-4 CCHA) on Saturday night inside Slater Family Ice Arena. Cole Moore made four key saves in the three-on-three overtime period to preserve a 1-1 tie.
The shootout went six rounds, with MSU winning 2-1 to take the second CCHA point. Minnesota State won five of six points on the weekend to jump BGSU for fourth place in the league standings with one weekend to play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Minnesota State dented the scoreboard early as Liam Watkins deposited a rebound from a Luigi Benincasa shot for the game's first goal just 2:59 into the contest.
• Down a man after Tyler Hotson was called for boarding, BGSU found itself on the penalty kill in the Mavericks' offensive zone. A pass ricocheted off Jackson Niedermayer's stick toward Brandon Whynott, who pushed it up ice in transition to Dominik Rymon. The rookie beat Alex Tracy for the equalizer.
• Rymon later scored BGSU's only make in the six-round shootout.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOM
"All weekend we didn't seem to have our jump we normally have. It was just one of those games tonight where I didn't think either team really found a ton of rhythm. It was kind of like we're going to punt the ball, you are going to punt the ball, we are going to punt the ball. There was no consistency to it. You are going to have games like that, and I told the guys we need to come into next weekend and elevate and clean up some areas of our game." – Dennis Williams, BGSU Ice Hockey Head Coach
NEXT UP
• BGSU concludes the regular season next weekend at No. 16 Michigan Tech. Friday's puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m., while Saturday's is scheduled for 6:07 p.m.
