Birchmeier Belts First Home Run Of 2026 Campaign

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team finished up the weekend series against Samford on Sunday (March 1). Samford struck first with a run in the first inning and maintained their lead through the game. A solo home run by Brady Birchmeier in the fourth and an RBI single by Vinny Salvione in the fifth produced a pair of runs for the Falcons in the 11-2 final score. Bowling Green will now transition to the conference schedule, beginning next weekend on the road at Kent State.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Samford tallied a run in the first inning to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the early going. A home run in the third sparked a three-run third for the Bulldogs, pushing the score to 4-0.
Brady Birchmeier put the Falcons in the hit column and the run column with one swing, belting a deep home run to left in the fourth for a 4-1 score.
Samford responded with four runs in the bottom half for an 8-1 tally.
In the fifth, Pauly Mancino began with a double down the third base line. Vinny Salvione later singled up the middle, bringing Mancino home for an 8-2 score.
The back-and-forth continued with another run for Samford in the bottom of the fifth for a 9-2 lead. A home run in the sixth moved the score to the eventual 11-2.
In the seventh inning, Ethan Stade came on out of the bullpen and struck out all three batters he faced for a quick one-two-three frame. Stade was one of three-straight BGSU relievers to produce a scoreless outing, joined by Luke Krouse and Micah Smith.

FALCON STAT FACTS

Pauly Mancino ripped a double in the fifth inning, continuing his team-leading nine-game on-base streak while increasing his hitting streak to six games in the process as well.
Brady Birchmeier knocked his first home run of the season, extending his hitting streak to four games and his RBI streak to three.
Vinny Salvione continued his strong weekend with an RBI and a base hit. Salvione tallied at least one hit and one RBI in each of the three games against Samford.
TJ Takats registered a pair of base hits for BGSU, his first multi-hit game of the season in just his third time in action this year.
Griffin Scheiderer reached base three times in the game with two walks drawn and a base hit. Scheiderer now has a hit in each of his last three games played.
Micah Smith made his first appearance of the season on the mound, striking out two of the four batters he faced.
