BGSU Doubles Way To Friday Victory Over Northern Illinois
March 27, 2026 | Baseball
Five Falcons Combine For Six Doubles In Series Opener
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first inning, NIU loaded the bases but the Falcons worked out of the jam with a double play. TJ Takats caught a fly ball in left and threw out a runner at second to keep it scoreless through one.
- The first BGSU hit of the day came in the top of the second with Andrew DiLodovico leading off with a double to left center. Anthony Mitta followed in the next at-bat with a near duplicate, doubling to left center and trading places with DiLodovico for the first run of the game and a 1-0 BGSU advantage.
- Later in the inning, Brayden Curlis sent a grounder to short, scoring Mitta while Curlis reached first and took second on a throwing error for a 2-0 score.
- In the third, Carter Mottice ripped a one-out double down the right field, making all of BGSU's first three hits of the day doubles.
- Northern Illinois scored one in the bottom of the third to cut the score to 2-1.
- Curlis kept the double streak going for the Falcons with a two-out, two-bag knock down the left field line in the top of the fourth.
- The Huskies added two runs in the sixth to move in front, 3-2, with an insurance run in the seventh for a 4-2 score.
- The Falcons answered in the eighth. Zack Horky led off the inning by drawing a walk before being joined on the bases by Sam Seidel who was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt from Mottice moved both runners up before Takats belted a double to right center, scoring both Horky and Seidel to tie the game at 4-4.
- After a pitching change, DiLodovico kept the rally going with a double down the left line, trading places with Takats to put the Falcons in front, 5-4.
