Scheiderer Extends On-Base Streak To Team-Leading 13 Games

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team wrapped up their five-game road trip Tuesday night (May 5) against Michigan State. The Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Falcons pulled within two runs twice with scores at 5-3 and 6-4. However, a seventh inning burst for Michigan State pushed their lead, and the final, to 12-4 in the late innings. The Falcons will now return home for their final home series on the season, beginning on Friday (May 8) with a 6 p.m. first pitch against Western Michigan.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Michigan State tallied the first run of the game with one in the second inning for a 1-0 score. MSU added four in the third for a 5-0 advantage.
Bowling Green got on the board in the fourth. Anthony Mitta ripped a one-out double down the right field line before taking third in a wild pitch. A walk to Zack Horky put runners at the corners with a TJ Takats double down the right field line scoring both Mitta and Horky.
Takats later took third on a wild pitch before scoring on a Carter Mottice single through the left side for a 5-3 score.
The Spartans answered with one in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-3 tally.
The back-and-forth continued in the fifth. Griffin Scheiderer knocked a leadoff single before Sam Seidel was hit by a pitch to put two on for the Falcons. A single from Horky later in the inning brought home Scheiderer to cut the score to 6-4.
Michigan State again answered with one in the bottom half of the frame to push their lead back to 7-4. A five-run seventh extended the MSU lead to 12-4, the eventual final.

Griffin Scheiderer tallied a base hit in the game, extending his on-base streak to a now team-leading 13 games.
Zack Horky stayed hot at the plate with his second-straight game logging two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Horky now has 10 multi-hit games this year with 22 runs scored and 22 RBI.
Carter Mottice added his second consecutive multi-hit game as well, giving him five on the season.
Anthony Mitta logged a multi-hit game for the Falcons, his first since April 24 and his 12th of the season for the Orange and Brown.
TJ Takats registered his fifth double of the season while logging his sixth multi-RBI contest of the season with a pair.
Sam Seidel was hit by a pitch in the game, the 27th of his career, moving him into a tie for seventh in program history for career HBPs.
