During his fifth season with the Falcons in 2025, Hallock and the Falcons put together another historic campaign. As a team, BGSU broke the program record for strikeouts in a season for the second straight year with 431 while also setting the record of innings pitched with 480.1 as well as fielding putouts with 1,441. The team also recorded an 11-game winning streak, tied for the third-longest in program history. Bowling Green tallied 33 wins over the course of the season, the first time with back-to-back 30-win seasons for the team since 2001-02. At the season conclusion, both Garrett Wright and Connar Penrod were named All-MAC First Team while Wright took home the MAC Defensive Player of the Year honor. In total, Wright broke three program records while Penrod broke one, being saves in a season with 12.
During his fourth season with Bowling Green in 2024, Hallock coached the Falcons to a program record 24 MAC wins while also tying the program record for MAC winning percentage (.800, 24-6). Bowling Green captured the MAC Regular Season title, the program's first since 2009, and Hallock earned MAC Coach of the Year honors. Additionally, BGSU had nine players receive a program record 14 All-Conference honors at the conclusion of the regular season. As a team, the Falcons broke the program records for walks drawn (310), strikeouts thrown (403) and fielding percentage (.976). Offensively, the Falcons averaged 9.2 runs per game, ranking eighth in the nation, registered a program record 33 RBI in a game against Ball State and scored the second-most runs in program history for a game with 34 against Ball State. In total, BGSU tied or broke nine records across program history for single-game, single-season and career.
In his third season with the Falcons, Hallock coached the Falcons to a win on the road over No. 5 Louisville by a score of 9-6 as well as an impressive 21-1 victory over Northern Illinois at home. BGSU closed out the season with a 16-5 victory over Toledo at Fifth Third Field to wrap up the season's Battle of I-75, splitting the four-game season series.Â
Following the season, the Orange and Brown had a pair of All-Americans. Kyle Gurney was named CSC Academic All-America, becoming just the second player in program history to receive the recognition multiple times. DJ Newman earned Freshman All-America honors from both Collegiate Baseball and NCBWA. As for MAC awards, Newman was named the MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-MAC as a DH. Nathan Archer was named MAC All-Defensive Team (OF) and Second-Team All-MAC while Gurney was named Second-Team All-MAC as well.Â
During his second season with the Falcons, Hallock coached the Falcons to one of the program's most explosive offenses during the BBCOR era. The season began with a 22-run performance against Saint Louis and included a win over Michigan State, the program's first win against a Power 5 opponent since 2014.Â
At the conclusion of the 2022 season, the Falcons saw Kyle Gurney named Second Team All-MAC as well as CoSIDAÂ Academic All-America. Ryan Johnston joined Gurney in the All-MAC accolades, being named All-MAC Defensive Team.
The Falcons made strides at the plate in 2022, putting together one of the program's most successful offensive outputs during the BBCOR era (since 2011). During that era, the 2022 season saw the most doubles (95), triples (17), home runs (46) and RBI (284) while producing the best slugging percentage (.442) and on-base percentage (.367) with the second-best batting average (.281).
The youngest head coach in the country during his first season at the helm in 2021, Hallock and the Falcons won 20 games for the first time in six years. BGSU won six of its last seven games to finish with 18 Mid-American Conference victories, which marked the most conference wins for the Orange and Brown since 2010.
Under the direction of Hallock and his staff, a number of young Falcons experienced breakout seasons in 2021. Kyle Gurney was named a freshman All-American and became just the program's third MAC Freshman of the Year. Gurney led all MAC freshmen in batting average (.333), total bases (89) and RBI (40). Gurney's 40 RBI are the most from a Bowling Green player in a single season since 2010. Furthermore, under the tutelage of Hallock, Nathan Rose became BGSU's first freshman in program history to earn First Team All-MAC honors. Rose started 40 games for the Falcons this past spring and hit .311 with a .403 on-base percentage. Rose led all MAC freshmen and ranked fifth in the entire conference with 14 doubles.
Additionally, corner infielder Adam Furnas was named the league's best defensive first baseman. Furnas ranked eighth in the league with a .435 on-base percentage, while his .335 batting average was the highest for a BGSU player since Kansas City Royals draft pick Brian Bien hit .350 for the Falcons in 2014.
To go along with the plethora of team and individual accolades on the diamond, the Falcons excelled in the classroom during Hallock's first season in charge. Bowling Green placed a school-record 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-MAC Team.Â
Â
In 2018, his first full season with the Falcons, Hallock transformed the BGSU pitching staff. After ranking last in the category in 2017, Bowling Green's pitching staff allowed the second-fewest runs in the Mid-American Conference. Eight of BGSU's top-nine ERA leaders were either freshmen or sophomores that season. Additionally in 2018, BGSU ranked top-five in the MAC in ERA and fewest-hits allowed. The previous season, the Falcons ranked last and third-to-last in the two categories, respectively.
Â
Even though the program played just 13 games in 2020 due to the coronavirus outbreak, Hallock and his pitching staff were rounding into form. Tyler Hays, one of the premier arms in the MAC and the program's freshman strikeout king, owned a 1.66 ERA and was limiting batters to a .203 batting average through four starts.
Â
Very familiar with the MAC, Hallock was an All-American pitcher at Kent State. At KSU (2008-11), Hallock won four-consecutive league titles, played in three NCAA Regionals, and his teams averaged over 40 wins per season. During his senior year in 2011, Hallock won 10 games and posted a 1.95 ERA on his way to earning All-American and MAC Pitcher of the Year honors. During his time at KSU, Hallock was mentored by current University of Georgia Head Coach Scott Stricklin, as well current Golden Flashes' pitching coach Mike Birkbeck – a former Major Leaguer and ABCA/Baseball America Division I National Assistant Coach of the Year.
Â
Hallock went on to have a highly-successful career in professional baseball. Hallock, who was also drafted out of high school by the Philadelphia Phillies, began his career in pro ball in 2011 after being selected by the Houston Astros in the 10th round of the 2011 MLB Draft. Across his first year in the Astros' system, he participated in the New York Penn League All-Star Game, on top of being named an organizational All-Star by MiLB.com writers and scouts.
Â
In 2013, Hallock was promoted three times, spending time with the Quad Cities River Bandits (Single-A), Lancaster Jethawks (Advanced-A) and Corpus Christi Hooks (Double-A) before finishing the year with the Oklahoma City RedHawks (Triple-A). In total, Hallock appeared in 59 games as a pro, logging 186.2 innings.
Â
As he transitioned into a coaching role, Hallock took over pitching coach duties in the summer of 2014 for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) – the premier summer circuit for college baseball players. On top of running a pitching operation that culminated with a CCBL championship, Hallock coached 12 players that summer that went on to be selected in next year's 2015 MLB Draft, including three first-round picks (Walker Buehler, Phil Bickford and Tyler Jay). Bickford was named the Summer Collegiate Pitcher of the Year that summer, while Buehler is currently a star for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Â
Prior to coming to BG, Hallock spent four years as the pitching coach at Malone University under head coach Tom Crank. Over his time at Malone, on top of playing a pivotal role in the program's overall resurgence, Hallock turned the Pioneers' pitching staff into one the very best across the Midwest Region. In the two seasons prior to his arrival, Malone went a combined 40-57. Across Hallock's four years on staff, the Pioneers posted four-straight winning seasons and went 124-83 (.600) overall.
Â
Malone averaged 31 wins per season under Hallock's guidance, due largely in part to a pitching staff that ranked first or second in team ERA within the GLIAC/GMAC conferences in three of his four years on staff. In fact, Malone's team ERA ranked 22nd in the country in 2015 (3.43), and 14th in the nation in 2017 (3.32). While on staff, Hallock coached right-handed pitcher Alex Widmer, who was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 2017 MLB Draft.
 Â
Hallock, who received his Bachelor's degree in Sport Administration from Kent State in 2011, earned a Masters of Business Administration from Malone University in 2016. Hallock was born and raised in Sandusky, Ohio. Hallock, along with his wife, Morgan, and two sons – Keegan and Klay – reside in Bowling Green, Ohio.
