LAST TIME OUT
Bowling Green closed out their regular season series with the Michigan Wolverines (RV/19) on Tuesday night at the Yost Ice Arena in a 4-0 loss. The shutout marked the second time this season the Falcons had not scored a goal in 60:00 of play, the last time being against the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Jan. 15 in Marquette, Mich. Nick Eno (Howell, Mich.) played a superb 23 minutes and change before suffering a minor lower left leg injury and being replaced by freshman Andrew Hammond (Surrey, B.C.). Hammond made a trio of highlight reel saves, but also allowed four tallies by the Michigan offense, three coming in the final period. The Falcon power-play unit went without a goal for the second consecutive game while their penalty kill team went 1-for-5 on the night. Tuesday night's game mopped up the series, which began last Thursday (Feb. 4) in Bowling Green, also resulting in a BGSU loss, 2-1. Tomas Petruska (Presov, Slovakia) was the lone Falcon to score, that on a power-play goal in the first period.
THE STARTING FIVE - Five Facts On BGSU Hockey
(1) The all-time series resides in favor of Bowling Green, 60-35-6. However the Redhawks have been more successful as of late having won the last six contests and 12 of the last 13 against the Falcons, dating back to 2005.
(2) The last time Bowling Green hosted the top-ranked team in the country was the last time the Miami Redhawks came to town in 2008. The Redhawks, also then ranked No. 1 in the country by both USA Today and USCHO.com, came to BGSU on Jan. 4-5 and split the series with Bowling Green by scores of 4-2, Bowling Green, and 5-2, Miami.
(3) Cluster play will be halted for a weekend where the Falcons bring in the top team in the land, No. 1 Miami Redhawks. The following two weekends closing out the 2009-10 season will be games played within Bowling Green's cluster. BGSU hosts Notre Dame on 2/19-20 before entering a home-and-home series with Michigan State (2/26-27).
(4) Three Falcons have found themselves on the Hobey Baker Award nomination list released earlier this month. Kyle Page (Sr., D), Tomas Petruska (Sr., F) and Jordan Samuels-Thomas (Fr., F) are all available to earn votes towards the 2010 Hobey Baker Award. To vote, visit www.hobeybaker.com/vote
(5) In recent years, the Falcons have struggled in the second half of their seasons. Last year the Falcons finished their last 18 games with a 4-14-0 record. Since 2000-01, BGSU has only had two seasons with post-.500 records in the second half of the season (2000-01, 2004-05) and have a combined record of 50-109-12 in that time. This year, they are currently 2-6-2 through seven games in the second half of 2009-10.
ALL EYES ON BG!
As we approach the mid-way point of the 2009-10 season, multiple Falcons can be found near the top of several CCHA and Division I hockey statistical categories. (statistics as of 2/11/10)

SCOUTING THE No. 1 MIAMI REDHAWKS
Recent Action: After the tragic and untimely death of student manager Brendan Burke, the RedHawks used their emotion to fuel them towards a demonstrative 10-4 win over LSSU (Feb. 6) last week. The game opened up with seven unanswered Miami goals, all even-strength. Of the RedHawks 10 goals, only one was on the power-play. The RedHawks are currently on a five game winning streak and have not lost in their last eight contests after being swept by Robert Morris on Jan. 8 and 10. Since Jan. 10, the RedHawks have outscored the competition 33-11, including three shutouts in that time.
Players to Watch: With four double-digit goal scorers and seven different RedHawks serving up double-digit assist totals this season, the Falcons will need to keep their eyes on a lot of bodies this weekend. Tommy Wingels is the RedHawks' leading goal scorer (14) and is tied for the team lead with 31 points. He also has a share of the national lead for game-winning scores with five. Carter Camper started the season hot and maintains a share of the lead in points while staking claim to the number one spot in team assists with 19. He also has added 12 goals to along with his 31 points. The team sharpshooter, Andy Miele, has the highest shot percentage (.156) among his teammates with over 50 shots on the season. His line of 12-17--29 makes him one of the more deadly RedHawks with a variety of ways to hurt the opposition. He comes off of a game where he scored four points (2-2--4) against LSSU on Feb. 6. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly there is Cody Reichard. The postminder in his 19 appearances this season has a GAA of 1.36 and has saved nearly 94 percent of shots sailing his way and has five shutouts to his resume. He leads the nation in save percentage, winning percentage (.816) and GAA. Watch out for his backup, Connor Knapp, who is fourth in the country in GAA (2.04) and 20th in save percentage (.917) in his 12 starts this season.
Statistically Speaking: When talking about the top team in the nation, their name is bound to be stamped in nearly every category. However, most times you will see the TEAM in those lists rather than individuals, except if you are Cody Reichard. Nationally, the RedHawks are first overall in team defense (1.67 g/gm) and possess the 12th-best offense (3.27 g/gm). While their power-play unit does not crack the top-25, their penalty killers rank fourth overall stopping 88 percent of all opposing power play chances. See below for their ranking in the CCHA, they are pretty good. Oh by the way, they have not lost a conference game since Oct. 24 versus Michigan State in a 3-2 overtime battle. They are 16-0-4 since that game against CCHA opponents.
