Both teams combined for a total of ten hits in Friday evening's game, each team recording five. Frank Berry (Vriginia Beach, Va.) led the Falcons out of the leadoff spot with a pair of base knocks, extending his current hit streak to ten games.
Bowling Green had a chance early to get on the board early but stranded a pair of runners in the first inning after Clay Duncan (Norwalk, Ohio) ended the inning with a fly out to center field. The Falcons stranded five runners on the day.
Cody Apthorpe (Windham, Ohio) tossed eight innings in the loss, striking out five men and walking one. Apthorpe (4-5) allowed only five hits and one run on a 104 pitch outing. Between the second and seventh innings, he retired 13-of-14 batters with three strikeouts.
Miami posted the lone and winning run in the second inning courtesy a fielder's choice with one out in the second inning. A leadoff single to left field by Kyle Weldon set the tone before he advanced to third on a one-out single to right field by Kevin Bower. Ryan Kaup grounded to short and the Falcons attempted to turn the double play. The unsuccessful turn resulted in a RedHawk run, all they would need for the win.
The Falcons (15-23, 8-8) and RedHawks (24-18, 11-5) will meet again on Saturday. The teams have rescheduled the remainder of the series due to inclement weather that is expected to hit on Sunday. Game one will begin at 1 p.m. and game two will tentatively begin at 4 p.m.
