Ryan Shay put the Falcons on the board with his first home run as a Falcon, hit off of Miami starter Tyler Melling in the top of the second inning. Miami was quick to take the lead back with seven unanswered runs between the fourth and sixth inning.
The RedHawks picked up three runs in the fourth, the first courtesy of a fielder's choice that scored Brad Gschwind from third. Bryce Redeker tacked on a pair with a home run off of BGSU starter Nick Bruns (St. Henry, Ohio). Gschwind increased the lead to 4-1 with a run scoring, sacrifice fly to left field. Nine-hitter Jon Edgington forced home another Miami run with a grounder hit hard enough to score Kevin Bower from third. Ryan Brenner then added two more with a two-run single to center field, making the score 7-1 after six inning of play.
The Falcons chipped into the deficit with three runs in the eighth inning. After Taylor Rhoades (Wheaton, Ill.) lead the inning off with a walk and Logan Walker (Richmond, Va.) came off the bench to single, Jon Berti (Troy, Mich.) hit a two-out triple scoring both Falcons. The three-bagger was his fifth of the season, one short of his career-high for a single season he set last year that tied a school record. Berti was driven home by a RBI single by Jeremy Shay, making the score 7-4. The Falcons did not get any closer and the game ended by that final score.
Bruns (3-3) went 4.1 innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out two RedHawk hitters. Michael Frank (Maumee, Ohio) went the rest of way, pitching 3.2 inning and allowing three runs on three hits.

The finale that both ended the day and series turned into the third duel between opposing pitchers in the last four games. In the 2-1 loss, Charles Wooten (Elmore, Ohio) pitched his longest outing of his career, lasting seven innings. Wooten (2-6) allowed six hits and a pair of runs before handing the ball off the Ross Gerdeman (Fort Jennings, Ohio) for a scoreless eighth inning of work.
Miami posted a run in the opening frame on a RBI single by Adam Weisenburger to right center field, putting the RedHawks up 1-0 early. Both teams went scoreless for the next five innings before Miami broke the silence in the seventh. With runners on the corners following a pair of singles, Edgington put a bunt down the third base side that scored the run from third, doubling the RedHawk lead.
In the top of the eighth the Falcons chipped into the lead with a solo home run from another freshman at the bottom of the BGSU line up. Alex Davison (Grand Ledge, Mich.) cranked his first career home run over the right center field fence to bring the Falcons within one run.
Bowling Green only had three runners reach second base on the day, the last in the top of the ninth representing the tying run. Jeremy Shay led the inning off with a walk but was retired on a fielder's choice hit by Ryan Schalter. Schalter advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt leaving the last hope in the hands of senior Clay Duncan (Norwalk, Ohio). However, Sam Dawes struck out the senior swinging to end the game.
With the sweep the Falcons (15-25, 8-10) fall five games behind the RedHawks (26-18, 13-5) for second place and are now one game ahead of Ohio for the third place spot. They have the rest of the week off and do not play again until they hit the road for another MAC East series, this time against Akron. The series will begin on May 6 at 3 p.m. from Lee R. Jackson Baseball Field.
