Before The Break
The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team lost to No. 3 Notre Dame Saturday night, falling to the Fighting Irish by a score of 4-1 at the BGSU Ice Arena.
Sophomore Ryan Carpenter scored the lone goal for the Falcons, while senior goaltender Andrew Hammond (2-7-2) turned away 28-of-32 shots in the loss. Both teams were able to light the lamp on the power play, with the Falcons going 1-for-2 and the Irish going 2-for-3.

Bowling Green has three wins this season, all coming when the Falcons have scored the first goal of the game. BG scored the first goal against Notre Dame Saturday night, marking only the third time this season that the Falcons have lost when scoring the game's first goal. Sophomore Ryan Carpenter scored the lone goal for the Falcons against Notre Dame, snapping a three-game point drought, and a four-game goal drought. Carpenter is now tied for the team lead in goals (5) with freshman Mark Cooper. Carpenter's last two tallies have come on the power play. Combined with his two-goal effort at the end of last season, Carpenter is currently on a two-game goal scoring streak against Notre Dame.
Mingo Back On The Board
Dajon Mingo also assisted on the lone Falcon goal Saturday night, snapping a three-game point drought. Mingo has not scored a goal in 13 games, dating back to the Falcons' 3-1 win over Colgate (Oct. 19).
Four Games

Niagara Before The Break: The No. 17 Niagara hockey team closed out the first semester with a 2-2 draw against Atlantic Hockey opponent RIT last Wednesday evening at Dwyer Arena.
For the second straight game, the Purple Eagles (10-2-4; 9-0-1 AHA) came back from two goals down, but had to settle for the tie, extending their un-beaten streak to a nation-best 12 games. The victory also extended Niagara's current home ice unbeaten streak to 13 games, dating back to the Purple Eagles 3-3 draw against Air Force on Feb. 11, 2012.
Players Of The Month: Giancarlo Iuorio and Carsen Chubak of the Niagara hockey team earned Atlantic Hockey monthly honors for November. Iuorio was named AHA Player of the Month, while Chubak was tabbed as AHA Goalie of the Month for the second time this season.
Iuorio helped lead the Purple Eagles to a 7-0-0 record during November by scoring eight goals and adding five assists. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound center recorded at least one point in six of the seven contests, including five multi-point efforts. He finished the month with two power-play goals, a game-winning tally and a +11 rating.
Chubak helped lead the Purps to a clean slate in November with a 0.71 goals-against average and a .977 save percentage to along with 214 saves in 420 minutes of work.

Freshman Mark Cooper is tied for the team lead in goals (5) this season, followed by junior Cam Wojtala (4). This year marks the second season in a row that a sophomore and a freshman have shared the team lead in goals at the winter break, as then sophomore Bryce Williamson's six goals last season tied Carpenter's team lead. DeSalvo ranked third on the team in goals last season, netting four at the midway point last season.
Plus/Minus
At the break last season, not a single Falcon carried a positive on-ice rating. This year, seven Bowling Green skaters are plus-1 or better. Sophomore Mike Sullivan leads the way with a plus-7 on-ice rating, followed by senior Bobby Shea's plus-5 on-ice rating.
Spreading the Scoring?
The Falcons currently have 17 skaters with at least one point this season, while five skaters have yet to register any. At this point last year, only one Falcon skater (who played in at least one game) had yet to register a point on the season, Max Grover.
Looking Ahead
The Falcons open the second half of the year with a single game against the Niagara Purple Eagles at the BGSU Ice Arena. Niagara is ranked 17th in the USCHO poll, and is the first of five opponents (Niagara, Notre Dame, Miami, Western Michigan, and Ferris State) left on the Falcons' schedule currently ranked in the top-20. Two other opponents on the Falcons remaining schedule (Michigan and Lake Superior) are currently receiving votes.
Bowling Green's first three games to start the second half of the season are non-conference contests. Along with the aforementioned Niagara, the Falcons travel to Canisius for a two-game set on Jan. 5-6 (Saturday/Sunday). The Falcons also have two more weekday games this season, starting at Michigan on Jan. 8 and ending with Notre Dame on Jan. 15, 2013.

Niagara Before The Break: The No. 17 Niagara hockey team closed out the first semester with a 2-2 draw against Atlantic Hockey opponent RIT last Wednesday evening at Dwyer Arena.
For the second straight game, the Purple Eagles (10-2-4; 9-0-1 AHA) came back from two goals down, but had to settle for the tie, extending their un-beaten streak to a nation-best 12 games. The victory also extended Niagara's current home ice unbeaten streak to 13 games, dating back to the Purple Eagles 3-3 draw against Air Force on Feb. 11, 2012.
Players Of The Month: Giancarlo Iuorio and Carsen Chubak of the Niagara hockey team earned Atlantic Hockey monthly honors for November. Iuorio was named AHA Player of the Month, while Chubak was tabbed as AHA Goalie of the Month for the second time this season.
Iuorio helped lead the Purple Eagles to a 7-0-0 record during November by scoring eight goals and adding five assists. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound center recorded at least one point in six of the seven contests, including five multi-point efforts. He finished the month with two power-play goals, a game-winning tally and a +11 rating.
Chubak helped lead the Purps to a clean slate in November with a 0.71 goals-against average and a .977 save percentage to along with 214 saves in 420 minutes of work.
