Falcons Over The Weekend
The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to Western Michigan Friday night, thanks to three straight goals from the Broncos in the second period. Senior Cameron Sinclair scored the lone goal for the Falcons, while junior goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 29-of-32 shots in the loss.
The Falcons stunned the CCHA Saturday night, upsetting first place Western Michigan 2-1. Sophomore Cam Wojtala and senior James McIntosh scored for the Falcons, while Andrew Hammond made 28 saves in the win.
Berkle Off The Board
Freshman Adam Berkle was held off the score sheet Friday night, ending his three-game point streak. The game also ended Berkle's two-game goal streak. Both were career highs.
Welcome Back Sinclair
Senior Cameron Sinclair's goal Friday night ended a personal seven-game goal drought, dating back to the Falcons 4-1 loss to Michigan State (Dec. 3, 2011). Sinclair now has eight points this season, which is a new career high. Sinclair's four goals this season tie his total from last season, which is also a career high.
Peltoma On The Board
Junior Ryan Peltoma's assist Friday night is only his second point of the season. Peltoma's only other point came against Western Michigan at the BGSU Ice Arena earlier this season. Peltoma has two points (Both assists) in seven career games against the Broncos.
Irish Points
The Falcon on the current roster with the most points against the Irish is senior Cameron Sinclair. Sinclair has recorded one goal and two assists in sixcareer games against Notre Dame. Sinclair failed to secure a point in one game played against the Irish earlier this season.
Falcon Killer
Western Michigan junior Dane Walters has been excellent against the Falcons this season, recording an astonishing five goals in just four games played. Walters added two assists earlier this season, giving him seven points in four games against the Falcons this year. Walters has scored all five of his goals against the Falcons at the Lawson Ice Arena.
Friendly With The Shootout
The Falcons have gone to a shootout four times this season, winning three of them. Bowling Green's only shootout loss came back against Western Michigan (Dec. 9) at the BGSU Ice Arena. The Falcons are getting used to playing bonus hockey at home, the Falcons 2-1 regulation win Saturday night marks the first time in four games Bowling Green did not go to a shootout at the BGSU Ice Arena. The Falcons recently defeated Ohio State in back-to-back shootouts at home. The Falcons only road shootout this season came against Miami (Nov. 19) earlier this season.
Perrier On The Board
Freshman defenseman Marcus Perrier recorded an assist in Friday night's contest, giving him six points on the year. Perrier's point total leads all Falcon defenseman. Sophomore Jake Sloat is second among defenseman, with three points (All assists) this season. Perrier is the only Falcon defenseman to score a goal this season.
*Junior Bobby Shea switched to defense after the Falcons 3-3 tie against Western Michigan (Dec. 9).
David vs. Goliath
The Falcons defeated Western Michigan Saturday night, marking the second time this season Bowling Green has defeated the first place team in the CCHA. Bowling Green defeated Ohio State in back-to-back shootouts earlier this month.
Zeros On The Board
The Falcons failed to score on nine power-play opportunities over the weekend, aiding their last place CCHA power-play rank (11.1 percent). The falcons have failed to score on the power play in the last three games, going 0-5 in the second game of the road series against Alaska. Going into the final game of the Alaska series, the Falcons we're riding a two-game power play scoring streak.
Another Streak Snapped
Sophomore Andrew Wallace was held off the score sheet against Western Michigan Friday night, snapping a two-game point streak against
the Broncos. Wallace recorded two assists in the Falcons 3-3 tie on Dec. 9, and one assist in the Falcons 6-1 loss to the Broncos Dec. 10.
Just In Time
McIntosh's goal Saturday night marks his first tally since the Falcons 6-1 loss to the Broncos Dec. 10 in Kalamazoo, and marks his twentieth career point as a Falcon. Chad Sumsion's assist on the tying goal marks his first point since the Falcons defeated Alabama Huntsville (Oct. 15) 3-0 in Huntsville.
Wojtala Lights-The-Lamp
Wojtala is now tied with freshman Ryan Carpenter for second on the team in goals with six on the season. Sophomore Bryce Williamson holds the team lead with seven goals on the season.
Making A Run
Bowling Green's win marks only their third CCHA regulation victory on the season, and second in two weeks. The Falcons defeated Alaska-Fairbanks 3-1 in Fairbanks (Jan. 20) last weekend.
The Hamburglar Strikes
Hammond continues to add to his season win total, securing his eighth victory of the season Saturday night, which is a new career high.
Game Winners
Freshman Adam Berkle now leads the Falcons with two game-winning goals this season. The Falcons have six other players who have registered a game-winning goal this year.
The Last Time
The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team fell to nationally ranked Notre Dame Friday night (10/28) by a score of 3-1. Sophomore Bryce Williamson scored the only goal for the Falcons, while junior Andrew Hammond stopped 22 of 25 shots in the loss.
The Falcons lost a close game to Notre Dame Saturday night (10/29) by a score of 3-2. Sophomore Bryce Williamson scored for the second straight game, while sophomore Ryan Viselli notched his first goal of the season. Junior Andrew Hammond stopped 23 of 26 shots in the loss.
Looking At Notre Dame
Notre Dame's strength is up front, as four players have recorded over 20 points this season. Sophomore T.J Tynan leads the league in points (36), while sophomore Anders Lee is tied for third in the league in points (27) and goals (14). Notre Dame has nine players with double-digit points.
Both goaltenders have played considerable minutes this season, with junior Mike Johnson getting a majority of the time. Johnson has a record of 8-6-3, with a 2.63 goals-against-average and a .885 save percentage. Sophomore Steve Summerhays has a record of 7-4-0, with a 2.74 goals-against-average and a .893 save percentage.
Notre Dame's power play ranks first in the CCHA, with a 20 percent success rate. The Irish penalty kill has been dreadful, ranking last in the league with an 80.2 percent kill rate.
Notre Dame trails only Michigan and Michigan State in goals-per-game average with 2.96. The Irish are tied with Bowling Green for last place in the CCHA in goals allowed, surrendering 2.75 goals-per-game.
