Baseball Falls At Eastern Kentucky, 10-8

The Bowling Green State University baseball team lost a tough 10-8 decsion to the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky University on Friday afternoon. With the loss the Falcons fall to 5-12.
The Falcons got off to a quick start in the ballgame, taking a 1-0 lead on the Colonels and starter Matt Harris. The RBI came courtesy of Andrew Kubuski, knocking in Jake Thomas who had led the game off with a single. The Colonels would respond in the home half on a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
Cody Apthorpe only lasted 2.1 innings in the game, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits. He received the loss, falling to 0-3 on the season. The Falcons would take a brief 3-1 lead in the third on Brandon Howard and T.J. Losby RBIs, scoring Brian Bien and Jake Thomas respectively.
However, EKU would respond with seven in the home half of the third to take an 8-3 lead, and knock starter Cody Apthorpe out of the game. Ben Singer would come on in relief of Apthorpe, going 3.2 allowing two earned runs on five hits. Patrick Martin would finish the game for the Falcons, not allowing a run in his two innings of work.
The Falcons would add two runs in the sixth, and three more in the eighth for their eight runs. The Falcons, down 10-8 entering the ninth, would get a leadoff single by Howard to put the pressure on closer Anthony Bazzani. But, Howard would be erased on a double play, and the game would end on a strikeout. The Falcons and Colonels each had 13 hits in the ballgame, but the Colonels got the best of the Falcons in the run column.
The two teams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon in a 1 pm contest.
