The Bowling Green State University baseball team scored the first run on Tuesday afternoon, but Michigan State responded by scoring the next nine runs, handing the Falcons a 13-3 loss. Matt Malewitz was tabbed with the loss for the 8-16 Falcons, while Trey Popp got the win for Michigan State.

Andrew Kubuski got the scoring started in the first inning, hitting a triple to center field with two outs in the first. He would score on a passed ball to the next batter, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Spartans were held scoreless in the first by left-handed pitcher Matt Malewitz.

After a scoreless second for the Falcons, Michigan State would tie the game in the home half of the second with two doubles. The Spartans took the lead for good in the bottom of the third with two unearned runs charged to Malewitz.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Spartans would outscore the Falcons 10-2 over the next three innings for the final of 13-3. Eight Falcon hurlers saw action on the mound on Tuesday, while 14 different position players saw action.

The Falcons scored their final two runs in the seventh inning on three hits and an error. The Spartans outhit the Falcons 16-8 on Tuesday at McLane Stadium, while both teams committed two errors.

Bowling Green now comes home for a season-long four-game home stand, which will begin Friday against Central Michigan. The Falcons and Chippewas will play a three-game set at Steller Field this weekend in a pivotal Mid-American Conference series.
