Box Scores: Game One Game Two
Auburndale, Fla—The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Sunday to Northeastern University. The games were played in Auburndale, Fla. at Lake Myrtle Park. The Falcons would lose game one by a score of 4-3, and drop game two, 5-2. With the losses the Falcons fall to 2-7 on the year, while Northeastern improves to 3-2 with the wins.
Game one would start off like the majority of games have this season for the Falcons, with a lead. However, the lead was short lived, as Northeastern would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second after the Falcons had scored in the top half. The Falcons first run of the ballgame came courtesy of a Drew Kuns double to leadoff the inning, followed by a Brian Bien double to drive him in.
Northeastern responded with two in the home half to take the 2-1 lead. The Falcons would tie the game in the top of the 5th with a home run by T.J. Losby, the first Falcon homer of the season, and the first of Losby's career. Northeastern would once again respond with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Falcons would add a run in the top of the 7th courtesy of a Logan Walker single to score Brandon Howard, but the Falcons would be unable to push the tying run across the plate, losing 4-3.
Andrew Leenhouts was credited with the win on the afternoon for Northeastern, going seven innings, allowing eight hits, and three earned runs. Ethan McKenney was charged with the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs over six innings of work. He also struck out six on the afternoon.
Game two would serve as just the second time that the Falcons did not score first in a game, falling behind 4-0 before breaking into the scoring column.
Northeastern would strike for three runs in the third, helped in part by an error that allowed the leadoff batter to reach base. A passed ball, walk, and wild pitch would proceed a three-run homer that would put the Huskies ahead for good, 3-0.
The Falcons would strike in the fifth when Patrick Lancaster would score on an infield single by Brandon Howard. The Falcons would get to within 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth when Matt Pitzulo doubled down the leftfield line to score Andrew Kubuski from first. Kubuski had reached base after being hit by a pitch. Despite a Jake Thomas single, the Falcons could not get anything going in the 7th inning, striking out three times, and falling in game two, 5-2.
Dylan Maki was impressive on the bump for the Huskies, going the distance allowing just five hits and one earned run. Maki received the win, to improve to 1-1 on the year. Patrick Martin received the loss for the Falcons, dropping his ledger to 0-2 on the season.
The Falcons will be back in action on Monday afternoon, when they face the Georgetown Hoyas at 3 pm from Winter Haven, Fla. at Chain O'Lakes Park.
Both games were seven inning contests on the afternoon.
