WCHA Love
After an impressive start to the season for some teams in the WCHA, the polls have listened and have ranked two teams ranked in the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) National Poll released on Monday. The Bulldogs, who are in first place in the conference with a 8-2-1 overall record and 4-0-1 in league games, climbed to 10th. Lake Superior State, who is 6-3-1 overall and 2-2 in the WCHA, received the 16th position in the latest poll. Four other schools are also listed outside of the top 20 receiving votes, including Alaska (10), Bowling Green (9), Alaska Anchorage (2) and Minnesota State (1).
Home Sweet Home
Bowling Green will return to their home ice this weekend against the Mavericks after being on the road for two consecutive weeks. The Falcons will put their unbeaten record at the BGSU Ice Arena this season on the line, holding a 4-0-1 record. The last time the Orange and Brown went unbeaten in their first six games at home in a season was 1995-96.
The Rematch
These two teams will take the ice against each other for the second time in three weeks, marking the only two times the Falcons and Mavericks will meet in the regular season. The much-anticipated matchup on Nov. 8-9 proved to be worthwhile, as both teams battled to a 1-1 series split at the Verizon Wireless Center. The Orange and Brown got the better of the Mavericks in game one, defeating Minnesota State 4-3. The victory on Friday night (Nov. 8) marked the first win over the Mavericks in BGSU history.
Unable to Hold On
Bowling Green held two-goal advantages late in both games last weekend against 14th-ranked Ferris State University. However, the Bulldogs fought back and erased both Falcon leads, including three goals in the third period on Saturday night to steal a 4-2 victory.
