Falcons Ready For Russ Matt Invitational

BGSU will play six games over five days beginning Tuesday
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Bowling Green State University baseball team will play six games over the next five days, beginning Tuesday, as part of the annual Russ Matt Invitational. The Falcons will begin play with a doubleheader on Tuesday against Illinois State and Yale. The Falcons and Redbirds will play at 2:00 p.m., and the Yale game will follow. Then, the Falcons will play Evansville Wednesday afternoon, Bucknell in a doubleheader Friday morning, and Maine Saturday morning to close out spring break play.
The Falcons are coming off a 7-4 win at High Point on Sunday, recording 12 hits and having 25 base runners reach base. Andrew Lacinak picked up his first career win for the Falcons in the game, going 5.0 innings while allowing just two earned runs.

Illinois State comes into the weekend at 8-4 overall, having won 2-of-3 over the weekend at the Russ Matt Invitational. Following Tuesday's game, the Redbirds will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for a matchup with Florida. RHP Steve Heilenbach will pitch for ISU, opposing LHP Brett Fitzwater for BGSU. Heilenbach has pitched 3.2 innings over two appearances, and has yet to allow an earned run. Dennis Colon leads the Redbirds with a batting average of .372.
Yale is 2-3 on the young season, coming off a 13-5 win over Bucknell on Monday afternoon at the Russ Matt Invitational. The Bulldogs will send LHP David Hickey to the mound against the Falcons. He will be opposed by RHP Tyler Anderson, who is making his first career start - and appearance - for the Falcons tomorrow. Yale has a .286 batting average as a team, and has an impressive win over nationally-ranked LSU on their resume.
Bucknell is just 5-6 on the season, but lost the first four games of the season, three of which were to nationally-ranked South Carolina. The Bison are scheduled to play a Tuesday game against Central Michigan and a Wednesday game against LIU-Brooklyn before Friday's doubleheader. While Bucknell's starters have yet to be announced, the Falcons are expected Cody Apthorpe in game one, and Mike Frank in game two.
The Black Bears will play a midweek, two-game series at Florida Atlantic before starting play at the Russ Matt Invitational. Maine will then play Northwestern on Friday before Saturday morning's game with the Falcons. The Orange and Brown will send Andrew Lacinak to the mound to conclude their spring break trip.
