Falcons Drop Doubleheader At Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Western Kentucky University on Saturday (March 10) afternoon at Nick Denes Field.
"I thought that we gave ourselves a chance to win two games today," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "But we still have to be able to execute when it matters most. We are looking forward to getting back to Steller Field on Tuesday."
Western Kentucky improves to 9-7 on the season with the pair of victories. Bowling Green is 3-13 on the season. The Falcons will play their home opener on Tuesday at Warren E. Steller Field versus Fort Wayne at 3:05 p.m.
Western Kentucky jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one, but Bowling Green chipped away, scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth before pulling within one run at 5-4 following a two-run seventh. The Falcons put the tying run on third in the ninth, but the Hilltoppers escaped the jam to win the game.
Bowling Green took a 3-1 lead in the second inning of game two, but Western Kentucky answered with a five-run second to jump back in front, 6-3. The Hilltoppers maintained the lead for the rest of the game.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Joe McGuinness and Derek Drewes posted two hits apiece while scoring one run each.
• Dylan Dohanos registered a team-high two RBI while going 1-for-4 at the plate with a run.
• Randy Righter and R.J. Williams both went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
• The Falcons also received a hit from Ty Suntken.
• Tyler Anderson got the start for Bowling Green, logging 5.1 innings and registering five strikeouts.
• Kody Brown worked 2.2 innings of hitless baseball in relief. He struck out two.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Falcons received hits from Neil Lambert, Joe McGuinness, Derek Drewes, Jeff Scott, R.J. Williams, Nick Neibauer, and Gama Martinez.
• Martinez and Scott registered one RBI apiece, while Drewes scored Bowling Green's other run on a wild pitch.
• Damon Egnor worked one hitless inning, striking out a batter in the process.
• Brad Croy turned in another strong outing in relief, allowing just one run over 3.0 innings. Croy struck out two batters.
