BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Freshman Dylan Dohanos hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Bowling Green State University baseball team a 5-4 win on Wednesday (March 21) over the University of Dayton. The game was BGSU's home opener at Steller Field.
Dohanos ripped a single into right field with the bases loaded. The two-out, full-count single scored Randy Righter from third base.
The win marked Bowling Green's first win on Opening Day at Steller Field since earning a 3-2 victory over Dayton on March 13, 2012.
"This was a complete team win," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "Our hitting, pitching and defense were solid throughout the whole game, and the freshman came through for us at the end. That's a hometown kid in his first at-bat at Steller Field, and he gives us a walk-off win. I'm really happy for Dylan and the rest of our team."
Bowling Green is now 1-0 at Steller Field on the season, as the Falcons played 19 games away from home to start the season. BGSU improves to 4-16 with the victory, while Dayton drops to 5-11 with the loss.
