BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped a Mid-American Conference series rubber match on Sunday (April 22) afternoon at Steller Field to Ball State University in 10 innings, 9-6. Ball State claimed the weekend series with the win, as the Cardinals won the second game of the series, as well.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Randy Righter tied the game at 6-6 with a two-RBI single into center field. However, Ball State would go on to score three unearned runs in the top of the 10th to win the game. The Falcons went down in order in the bottom half of the frame.
Bowling Green is now 10-25 on the season. The Falcons are 5-8 in Mid-American Conference play. With the win, Ball State improves to 19-19 (7-8 MAC).
"This is a tough loss. Our guys played so hard and once again never gave up," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "But we didn't execute as well as they did. Ball State is a good team and they took advantage of our mistakes."
Bowling Green quickly fell behind by a 4-0 margin, but a three-run third for the Falcons made the game close the rest of the way. BSU scored single runs in the fifth and eighth before the game-sealing top of the 10th. BGSU plated a run in the seventh prior to Righter's two-RBI knock in the ninth.
