MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped its series opener at Central Michigan University, 8-4, Friday (April 27) afternoon at Theunissen Stadium. The Chippewas scored the final four runs of the ballgame to secure the win.
Bowling Green falls to 10-27 on the season with the loss. The Falcons are 5-9 in Mid-American Conference play. With the win, Central Michigan moves to 17-23-1 (9-7 MAC).
"It was great to see us get hit in the mouth early, and then fight right back," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We had an opportunity to take the lead right after our four-run inning, and we didn't take advantage. If we were able to play from ahead, I think it would have been a different game."
After the Chippewas posted four runs in the second, Bowling Green countered with four in the third. Randy Righter started the rally with a two-run double. Neil Lambert then doubled to score Righter, before a steal and error tied the game at 4-4.
However, Central Michigan went on to score one run apiece in innings four, five, six and seven. The three-game series will continue tomorrow (April 28) afternoon at 2:05 p.m. The series finale is scheduled for Sunday (April 29) at 1:05 p.m.
ADDITIONAL GAME NOTES
• In relief, left-handed pitcher Daniel Buratto fired a scoreless eighth inning.
• Neil Lambert led the Bowling Green offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. His double in the third scored Randy Righter. Lambert also scored in the inning.
• Derek Drewes was the only other Falcon on the day to record multiple hits, as he went 2-for-5 with one run.
• Bowling Green also received hits from Jake Wilson, Randy Righter, Brad Croy and Justin Mott.
