MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team pounded out 11 hits on Saturday (April 28) afternoon, but Central Michigan University escaped with a 4-3 win at Theunissen Stadium. CMU stranded the tying run at second base in the ninth inning.
The Falcons scored single runs in the first, third and sixth. Randy Righter doubled home the opening run of the ballgame in the first. Derek Drewes tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single in the third, before a Cam Daugherty single up the box in the sixth brought the Falcons within one run at 4-3.
Bowling Green had scoring chances late in the game, but the Falcons couldn't capitalize. Bowling Green put its first two runners on base in the seventh, but three fly outs ended the threat. In the ninth, BGSU got a one-out single from Brad Croy and a two-out single from Righter, but a strikeout ended the contest.
"We just need to find a way to win these types of games," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We've been in so many close and winnable games within the MAC, and we just can't seem to get over the hump. I expect our guys to come out and play hard tomorrow."
Bowling Green and Central Michigan conclude this weekend's series with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch tomorrow (April 29).
