OXFORD, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped its series finale at Miami University on Sunday afternoon by a score of 8-5. Bowling Green lost the three-game weekend series, 2-1. The Falcons won yesterday's game, but lost Friday's opener.
The Falcons are now 9-21 overall on the season. Bowling Green is 4-5 in Mid-American Conference play. With the victory, Miami improves to 17-10 (6-3 MAC). Miami has won all three MAC series in 2018.
"I thought our guys fought hard for nine innings," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "But when you keep digging holes against good teams, it's going to be tough to win. We were able to do it yesterday, but it's tough. I give Miami full credit – they are a really good club."
Miami took a 6-0 lead before Bowling Green nearly stormed all the way back. Bowling Green chipped away with two runs in the fifth, prior to plating one in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
The Falcons had the tying run on third in the seventh, but Miami was able to pitch out of the threat. The RedHawks then scored two huge insurance runs in the eighth to build up an 8-5 advantage.
ADDITIONAL GAME NOTES
• Neil Lambert and Ty Suntken registered three hits apiece on the day. Lambert went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI on the day, while Suntken went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
• Bowling Green's other hits were registered by Jeff Scott, Jake Wilson, Derek Drewes and Cam Daugherty.
• Daniel Buratto turned in 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball from out of the bullpen. The southpaw struck out two batters, and gave up two hits.
• Kody Brown logged a scoreless seventh inning, allowing just one hit.
