OXFORD, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University hockey team began their 2019-20 campaign with a seven to four victory over the Redhawks of Miami University. Bowling Green would outshoot Miami 42 to 19 in the win. Head Coach Ty Eigner would tally his first win at the helm of the Orange and Brown, and junior Cameron Wright tallied four goals netting his first career hat trick in the process. The first period remained scoreless as both teams settled in. Miami would strike first in the contest before the Falcons would soar back to answer with two goals from Wright. Connor Ford and Evan Dougherty found the back of the net prior to Miami scoring another. Cameron Wright would complete his hat trick before two goals from Miami. Wright tallied one more to keep the foot on the gas before Alec Rauhauser would add an empty netter. Bowling Green will host Miami in December for the second game of the series. BGSU is back in action next weekend when they host the Ice Breaker Tournament at the Huntington Center.

Scoring Plays

Miami opened the scoring as Gordie Green would find the back of the net 50 seconds into the second period. He was assisted by Derek Daschke and Casey Gilling.
Cameron Wright answered for Bowling Green scoring on a deflection right in front of Miami goaltender Ryan Larkin 12:55 into the second period. He was assisted by Will Cullen.
Cameron Wright would light the lamp again on a power play at 15:38 into the second period. Alec Rauhauser and Eric Dop would record assists on the play. Dop would pick up the first point of his college career on the play.
Connor Ford scored taking a pass in the slot and shooting it passed Larkin two minutes into the third period. He was assisted by Alex Barber and Carson Musser.
Not long after, Evan Dougherty scored the first goal of his career with the Falcons at 5:43 into the third period. T.J. Lloyd and Alec Rauhauser would tally assists
Miami's Karch Bachman would score 7:55 into the third period. Gordie Green and Bray Crowder would assist him.
Cameron Wright would complete his hat trick with another power play goal at 8:44 into the third period. He was assisted by Will Cullen and Taylor Schneider.
Miami tallied a pair of goals to close the gap to one goal on the sticks of Gordie Green and Karch Bachman at 16:04 and 17:36 into the third period.
With under two minutes to play, Cameron Wright struck for a fourth time in the contest. Max Johnson and Alec Rauhauser would pick up assists.
Alec Rauhauser closed the contest with an empty net goal with 10 seconds left. Connor Ford would assist him.

Other Key Plays

The Redhawks drew the first power play of the contest with 11:13 left in the first period. Taylor Schneider would bring the puck into Miami's zone on a short-handed attack drawing a hooking call in the process. The game would remain scoreless after the four-on-four and responding BGSU power play. The first period ended scoreless with the Falcons leading shots on goal 12 to 5. In total 11 goals would be scored in the contest starting in the second period.

Falcon Stat Facts

Cameron Wright tallied his first career hat trick on the way to four goals tallied in the contest. It was his first time scoring multiple goals in game for BGSU. Just one game into the season, he is tied for first nationally in total goals scored.
Bowling Green goaltender Eric Dop recorded his first career point picking up an assist on Cameron Wright's second goal of the game.
In the first game of his sophomore season, Evan Dougherty would tally the first goal of his college career for the Falcons.
This was the second year in a row that Bowling Green tallied a hat trick in the season opener, as former captain Stephen Baylis would score one a season ago in a victory against Mercyhurst.
Freshman T.J Lloyd tallied his first career point with the Falcons when he assisted Evan Dougherty in scoring his goal. He was one of three Falcons to tally his first point in the victory.

Bowling Green continue their early nonconference schedule next weekend when they host the 2019 Ice Breaker Tournament at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. The Falcons will take on the Tigers of RIT on Friday, Oct. 11 at 8PM. They will then play either Ohio State or Western Michigan on Saturday night, Oct. 12 at 8 PM.
