
Bowling Green Bounces Back To Defeat UAH 7-1 In Regular Season Finale

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The No. 15 ranked Bowling Green State University hockey team topped Alabama Huntsville on Saturday (March 2) night by a final score of 7-1. The Falcons scored seven times on 35 shots on goal. BG scored five of their eight goals in the first period of the contest. Senior John Schilling led the way for the Falcons with two goals. He was joined by five of his teammates in the score column for the night. The win results in the series being split by the teams. Bowling Green climbs to 21-9-5 with a 16-8-4-3 standing in the WCHA.

- The Falcons will return to Slater Family Ice Arena on March 8 for the first round of the WCHA playoffs. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:37 p.m. as Bowling Green will serve as the No. 3 seed and face the No. 6 seed Michigan Tech. This will be the first of the best of three series.

Scoring Plays
- Less than two minutes into the action, Alex Barber capitalized on a BGSU power play to put the Falcons ahead 1-0. He was assisted on the play by Alec Rauhauser and Brandon Kruse.
- Just 11 seconds after regaining full strength, the Orange and Brown connected for their second goal, coming off the stick of Frederic Letourneau, who was unassisted on the play.
- Alec Rauhauser added a goal to his point total on the night scoring the Falcons' third goal, and second power play goal. Max Johnson and Brandon Kruse offered assists on the play.
- After snagging an assist, Johnson tallied a score of his own 9:54 into the first period, coming off on a BGSU power play. Connor Ford and Brandon Kruse earned assists on the goal.
- Before the close of the first period, John Schilling joined in on the scoring affair to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead. Connor Ford tallied another assist on the play.
- At 1:58 into the second period, the Falcons added another goal. This time by Taylor Schneider with the assists coming from Frederic Letourneau and Alec Rauhauser.
- The Chargers got on the board for the only time during the second period with a goal from Bauer Neudecker. He was assisted by Bailey Newton and Connor Merkley.
- In the third period, three seniors worked together to tally the Falcons' seventh goal. John Schilling was the one to score, his second of the night, while being assisted by Adam Smith and Matt Meier.

- Early in the first period, Lukas Craggs was ejected for checking from behind.
- After falling behind 4-0 in the first period, Alabama Huntsville opted to make a change at goaltender, placing Mark Sinclair between the pipes. However, Jake Theut would return for the second period. He would play the rest of the contest.
- In the second period, UAH's Bailey Newton was ejected after being issued a five minute major penalty and a game misconduct.

- Bowling Green tallied five goals in the first period. This marked the first time the Falcons have put up five or more goals in a period against a league opponent since Nov. 19, 2016, when BGSU scored six goals against Alabama Huntsville during the third period in what would be an 8-3 victory.
- In the first period, the Orange and Brown took advantage of power play opportunities, scoring on their first three chances.
- Senior John Schilling tallied two goals on the evening extending his scoring streak to four straight games. Schilling has scored 11 points in Bowling Green's last eight games.
- With three assists on the night, Brandon Kruse increased his team lead in both assists (28) and points (36).
- Alec Rauhauser tallied three points on the night with one goal and two assists, bringing his assist total to 21 on the season, second on the team.
- Max Johnson eclipsed the 30 point mark tonight with a goal and an assist, putting his season total at 31.
- Max Johnson and Connor Ford are now tied for the team lead in goals with 14 apiece.
- The Falcons had six players tally multiple points on the evening. Brandon Kruse accomplished multiple points for a team leading, 11th time. He was joined by Max Johnson (8), Connor Ford (7), Alec Rauhauser (6), John Schilling (4), and Frederic Letourneau (2).
- The Bowling Green Falcons complete their 2018-19 regular season slate with an overall record of 21-9-5. They finish WCHA league play with a total of 55 points, which will earn them the No. 3 seed in the WCHA playoffs. The Falcons will host No. 6 seeded Michigan Tech in round one (March 8-10). The last time BGSU hosted the MTU Huskies in the first round was in the 2013-14 WCHA playoffs. The Falcons swept the Huskies in that series two games to none. This will also be the first post season meeting between the two schools since the 2016-17 WCHA Championship game.

- With the regular season over, the Falcons will turn their efforts to the WCHA playoffs beginning Friday, March 8. As the No. seed, BGSU will host the first round that will take place March 8-10, consisting of a best two out of three round. Bowling Green's opponent is set to be No. 6 seeded Michigan Tech, who the Falcons split a series with earlier in the season. Last season, the Orange and Brown hosted Ferris State in the first round, winning the first game in overtime by a score of 2-1 and advancing after claiming the second game, 5-2.
