Falcons Score Three Goals In Third Period In 3-2 Comeback Win Over Michigan Tech

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The No. 15 ranked Bowling Green State University hockey team overcame a late 2-0 deficit to top the Michigan Tech Huskies 3-2 on Friday (March 8) night with three third period goals. BGSU fired 41 shots on goal, with MTU only registering 25. The win gives the Falcons the advantage in the best of three series. Both Connor Ford and Max Johnson provided a goal and an assist in Bowling Green's third period onslaught.

- The Falcons will return to Slater Family Ice Arena on Saturday (March 9) night to continue the first round of the WCHA playoffs. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. as Bowling Green will take on Michigan Tech in game two of the best-of-three series. BGSU will have an opportunity to sweep the series and advance to the semifinals with a win.

Scoring Plays
- Michigan Tech scored first at 6:56 in the first period with the puck sliding across the line during a barrage of shots. The goal was scored by Raymond Brice with assists from Tommy Parrottino and Greyson Reitmeier.
- At 18:18 in the second period, Michigan Tech added to their lead with a breakaway shorthanded goal by Alec Broetzman, who was assisted by Greyson Reitmeier on the goal.
- The Falcons opened the third period with a power play goal by Connor Ford with assists coming from Alex Barber and Max Johnson. This at 11:55 into the third period.
- Just 15 seconds later, Bowling Green tied the game up with a goal from Frederic Letourneau. Assists were credited to Adam Smith and Chris Pohlkamp.
- The Orange and Brown took the lead at 13:41 into the third period with a game-winning power play goal from Max Johnson. He was assisted by Connor Ford and Brandon Kruse.
Other Key Plays
- There were only two penalties in the first period, both against Bowling Green, but the Falcons successfully killed both power plays.
- TJ Polglaze of MTU was ejected in the second period after being issued a five minute major penalty and game misconduct for checking from behind.
- Michigan Tech's second goal came just seconds after Alec Rauhauser rang a shot off the iron at the other end of the ice.
- In the third period, the Falcons took advantage of special teams, capitalizing for two power play goals.

- The win for the Falcons is their first of the season when trailing entering the third period. It was also the team's 20th win when they score three or more goals this season. BG is 20-0-2 in those games.
- With his goal in the third period, Connor Ford moves into sole possession of second place on the team in goals with 14 on the season. He temporarily tied Max Johnson, but Johnson would break that just minutes later. Ford also added an assist for his eighth multi-point game this year.
- Max Johnson's goal was number 15 on the season, extending his team lead in the category. With his assist, Johnson now has 33 points, the second most on the team. It was also his ninth multi-point performance on the season.
- By assisting Johnson's goal, Brandon Kruse extends both his assist lead (29) and points lead (37) for this season. It also served as his 70th career point.

- The Falcons will continue their series with Michigan Tech tomorrow (Saturday, March 9) with a scheduled puck drop of 7:07 p.m. This will be the second game of the best of the three series with the winner advancing to the second round of the WCHA playoffs. With a win Bowling Green would sweep and advance to the WCHA semifinals.
