Box Score
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team earned a 10-4 victory at Purdue University Fort Wayne on Wednesday (April 10) afternoon. The Falcons erased an early 2-0 deficit, scoring 10 of the game's final 12 runs to secure the victory. Bowling Green has now won three-consecutive midweek games. The game was played at PFW's Mastodon Field.
The win moves Bowling Green to 12-16 on the campaign. The Falcons have now won more games than they did all of last season. Purdue Fort Wayne drops to 5-24 in 2019 with the loss.
Bowling Green took a 4-2 lead with a four-run fifth, and the Falcons led the rest of the way. After a Neil Lambert double to start the inning, Dylan Dohanos got Bowling Green on the board with an RBI single into right field. Cam Daugherty and Nick Neibauer went on to register RBI singles, and then Gama Martinez gave the Falcons a 4-2 lead with a sacrifice fly.
Riley Minorik scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, while Mike Malewitz scored Dohanos with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. PFW scored two in the bottom of the eighth and also put the tying run on second base, but Jeremy Spezia entered and got a huge strikeout to leave the bases loaded.
Bowling Green tacked on four more runs in the ninth, as Ty Suntken and Jack Connelly notched two-RBI hits. Suntken scored two with a single into right-center, while Connelly – in his first collegiate at-bat – smoked a double off the left field wall.
Spezia nailed down his fourth save of the season in the bottom of the ninth. Spezia allowed just one hit and no runs over 2.0 innings of work. Daniel Buratto earned the win for the Falcons, as he tossed 3.0 innings of one-run ball. David Stopp worked a scoreless sixth for the Orange and Brown.
COACH SCHMITZ QUOTE
"Our entire pitching staff did a great job managing the game, and keeping us within striking distance before our bats broke out. Our defense was sharp, as well, turning a key double play and making some nice running catches in the outfield. The goal is to take this momentum into a big home series this weekend versus a strong Miami team."
