DAYTON, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team scored the first four runs of the game, but Wright State University went on to score eight unanswered runs to earn an 8-5 victory on Tuesday (April 23) night at Nischwitz Stadium. The non-conference ballgame was played in Dayton, Ohio.
Wright State took advantage of its opportunities, as the Falcons out-hit the Raiders by a commanding 14-6 margin. The Falcons drop to 13-23 on the season with the loss, while Wright State improves to 28-13. The Raiders are 16-3 at home in 2019.
Eight of Bowling Green's nine starters recorded a hit on the night, led by a 3-for-5 effort from Dylan Dohanos. Jeff Scott, Adam Furnas and Nick Neibauer notched two hits apiece for the Orange and Brown. Tyler Haas led the Falcons with two RBI.
Bowling Green took a 4-0 lead with a four-run fourth. Haas' two-run double gave BGSU a 2-0 lead. RJ Williams and Jake Wilson came around to score on the play. Williams started the frame with a single, and then Wilson's team-leading 11th double of the season put both runner in scoring position. Scott and Neibauer went on to notch run-scoring singles.
Wright State countered by scoring five in the fifth and three in the seventh to take control of the game. Neil Lambert drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth to conclude the game's scoring.
COACH SCHMITZ QUOTE
"That fifth inning obviously changed the course of the game. We had a chance with two outs to get out of the inning with no runs in, and they go on to score five. We had nearly everyone in our lineup get a hit tonight and I thought Daniel Buratto gave us a great start. Tonight is another example of needing to play strong for nine innings in order to get a win."
