BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team hosts Kent State University this weekend at Steller Field. The Mid-American Conference series will mark BGSU's last three games at home in 2019. The series opener is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. on Friday, May 10. Senior Day at Steller Field is set for a 1:05 p.m. start on Sunday, May 12.
Including this weekend, the Falcons have six games remaining – all of which are conference contests. Next week, Bowling Green will conclude the regular season at Northern Illinois. The Falcons are 4.5 games back of the sixth and final seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament.
Â
Ohio owns that last spot with a 10-10 record. BGSU could also catch NIU (11-10). Northern Illinois is currently five games ahead of BGSU, so Bowling Green would need to make up two games on the Huskies this weekend in order to have a chance to pass up the Huskies in the standings next weekend.

COACH SCHMITZ QUOTE
"We are excited to honor our 12 seniors this weekend. All of them have made impacts both on and off the field, and it will be great to have a lot of their family members and friends in Bowling Green to see them play. Kent State is obviously a great program, and we are looking forward to the challenge."

FALCONS OPEN WEEK WITH 3-1 WIN OVER PURDUE FORT WAYNE
Bowling Green opened the week with a 3-1 win over Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday (May 7). The Falcons scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back. The game was Bowling Green's final non-conference contest of the season. With the win, Bowling Green completed the season sweep of the Mastodons. On April 10 in Fort Wayne, the Falcons earned a 10-4 win by pounding out 15 hits.
Â
Dylan Dohanos provided the offense in the two-run first. After Tyler Haas walked with one out and Anthony Smith continued the inning with a two-out infield single, Dohanos pulled a ball into right-centerfield for a two-run double.
Â
In the second, with two outs and R.J. Williams on first, Haas gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead with a double that split the gap in right-center. Williams walked with two outs, setting up Haas' double. Haas finished the day 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored.
Â
Seven different Bowling Green pitchers combined to throw 9.0 innings of one-run ball, limiting Purdue Fort Wayne to just seven hits. Damon Egnor earned his first win of the season, while Jeremy Spezia tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his fifth save of 2019.
