FALCONS PICK UP WIN IN WILMINGTON
Bowling Green picked up its first win of the season over Marshall last Friday (Feb. 21). The game was played as part of the Hughes Brothers Challenge at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
The Falcons took advantage of a three-run third inning, and never looked back. Dylan Dohanos and Kyle Gurney plated runs with ground outs, prior to Jack Krause coming around to score on a wild pitch. Krause doubled with two outs before coming around to score.
After the Thundering Herd pulled within a single run at 3-2, Bowling Green scored two more runs in the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs, Ryan Johnston poked a two-RBI single into left field. The rally was started with an Adam Furnas single. Mike Malewitz and Trent Farquhar worked walks to load the bases.
Bowling Green's pitching staff allowed just two earned runs. Gage Schenk closed the deal, pitching two scoreless innings to earn the first save of his career. Schenk struck out two, and allowed just one hit. The eighth-inning single marked the only blemish on Schenk's record.
Andrew Abrahamowicz got the start, and earned his third-career win in the process. Over 5.0 innings, the righty allowed five hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out two and walking three. Abrahamowicz moved to 1-0 on the season with the victory.
Jay Ward struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings. Jeremy Spezia recorded two key outs in the seventh inning.
Jake Wilson went 2-for-5 with a run, leading the squad with a team-high two hits. Nick Neibauer went 1-for-2 with a double, run scored and two walks. He also threw out a would-be base stealer in the first inning. The Falcons registered eight hits compared to Marshall's seven.
