Falcon Hockey Prepares For Holiday Face-Off

MILWAUKEE – The Bowling Green Falcons hockey team (8-7-3, 6-5-1-0) will compete in the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off, held at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Falcons begin the tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 28, with a 5 p.m. ET game against the No. 16 Providence Friars (14-7-0, 6-5-0). Based on the results of that game, the Falcons will play in the consolation game or championship game, held on Wednesday, Dec. 29. The consolation game is slated for a 5 p.m. ET puck drop, with the championship game scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. ET start. BGSU will face the Wisconsin Badgers (5-12-1, 3-7-0-1) or Yale Bulldogs (3-7-0, 2-6-0) on Wednesday.

Tickets for both games can be purchased by calling the BGSU Ticket Office at (419) 372-0000. Parking is available in various lots around the Fiserv Forum. Per Fiserv Forum policy, masks are strongly encouraged for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, in public, indoor settings. Face shields or scarves may not be worn in place of a face mask, but may be worn in addition to a face mask. Bandanas, gaiters, costume masks, face coverings with vents and face coverings with only a single layer of fabric are not permitted. For the first time since Oct. 24, 2009, the Bowling Green Falcons and Providence Friars will battle on the ice. The Friars won the 2009 meeting, 3-1. Bowling Green's last victory in the series came on Oct. 20, 2006, a 4-2 triumph. The all-time series between the Falcons and Friars is even at 5-5-0, with Providence winning both neutral-site games.

Opponent Outlook: Providence
Providence is ranked No. 16 in the country, earning a 14-7-0 overall record and a 6-5-0 record in Hockey East competition. The Falcons and Friars have one common opponent (Minnesota State), with both teams being ousted by the No. 1 Mavericks. Brett Berard leads Providence with 12 goals and 24 points, with Nick Poisson tallying a team-best 18 assists. Goaltender Jaxson Stauber has a 13-7-0 record, with a save percentage of .923 and a GAA of 2.13. All three totals rank top-20 nationally.

The 4-3 Falcon victory secured a third-place finish in the NCAA Tournament, one of two times the Orange and Brown earned a berth in the NCAA Semifinals. - Through 18 games, three Falcons have tallied a team-best 12 assists: seniors Gabriel Chicoine and Taylor Schneider, and freshman Austen Swanker.
- Swankler leads the Falcons with 19 points this season while ranking third in the NCAA in assists by a freshman. Chicoine ranks tenth in the nation in defenseman assists, while leading the Falcons in multi-assist games with four. Schneider leads the Falcons in multi-point efforts with six.
