Falcons erase deficit in third with two goals; sophomore scores game-winner with 17 seconds left
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (5-7-0, 4-4-0 CCHA) earned a sensational comeback victory over the St. Thomas Tommies (2-10-0, 1-5-0 CCHA), scoring twice in the final period to take a 3-2 win. The Tommies struck first, but Nathan Burke's power play goal tied the game. St. Thomas took the lead again in the second, but the Falcons were resilient again as Ethan Scardina tied it with five minutes remaining in regulation. BGSU, led by an incredible four blocked shots from Hunter Lellig, killed a late penalty and returned to full strength in the final minutes. With 17 second left to play, Austen Swankler knocked in the rebound from Lellig's shot to give the Falcons the win and their first series sweep of the season.

Bowling Green goes on the road for the next series, playing two games against Ferris State. The first game begins at 7:07 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 18, with the second game scheduled for 6:07 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Scoring Plays
- The Tommies struck first, scoring just under seven minutes into the game. Quinton Pepper scooped the puck away from the corner, finding Andrew Kangas. He skated to the goal line and passed it back to the center, finding Cooper Gay. His shot trickled through the right side of the crease, hitting the back of the net for the game's opening score.
- During an extended power play in the first period, the Falcons evened the score with a Nathan Burke score. Alex Barber sent the puck from the corner to the point, hitting Zach Vinnell. His shot was redirected by Burke for the game-tying score.
- In the second period, St. Thomas regained the lead. The Tommies won a faceoff, then had their initial shot blocked. Jake Braccini collected the puck between the circles, then passed it to Braidan Simmons-Fischer at the blue line. His long-range shot found twine to give the Tommies the lead.
- With just over five minutes left in the third, Ethan Scardina netted a goal to tie the game. UST gained control of the puck in their own zone, but Chase Gresock intercepted a pass at the blue line. He fed it to Scardina in the middle, who fired a quick shot to even the score.
- In the waning seconds of regulation, Ryan O'Hara dumped the puck into the zone. It cycled to Austen Swankler, who had his shot blocked by a St. Thomas defenseman. Hunter Lellig collected the puck and fired from the blue line, but the shot was saved. The rebound went to Swankler on the right side, and the sophomore swiftly knocked it in for the thrilling game-winning goal.
- Austen Swankler scored his seventh goal of the season, giving him 10 points on the year. The sophomore has 15 goals and 36 points in his career. He currently leads the team in goals and points, as well as game-winning goals (2).
- Ethan Scardina scored his sixth goal of the season, giving him seven points on the season. The junior has 12 goals and 21 points in his career. He has lit the lamp for the Falcons in four consecutive games.
- Nathan Burke scored his second goal of the season, also on the power play. The senior has 31 goals and 54 points in his career. 10 of the forward's goals have come on the power play.
- Chase Gresock extended his team lead in assists to seven. The senior has nine points on the season and 82 in his collegiate career.
- Alex Barber tallied an assist, his third of the season. The captain has 53 assists and 89 points in his collegiate career, which has spanned 153 games.
- Zach Vinnell notched his third assist of the year, giving him 28 in his career. The senior has 36 career points.
- Ryan O'Hara registered his fourth assist of the season, improving his point total to nine. The sophomore has eight assists and 17 points in his career.
- Hunter Lellig recorded an assist, his second of the year. The senior has 12 assists and 14 points in his collegiate career. The defenseman blocked a team-best five shots on the night, including four during a late power play for the Tommies.
- Christian Stoever earned his third-straight win, stopping 23-of-25 shots.
