BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (8-9-0, 7-6-0 CCHA) dropped a physical Friday battle to the No. 16 Minnesota State Mavericks (9-7-1, 6-4-1 CCHA) by a score of 2-1. Sophomore goaltender Christian Stoever had a career-best 43 saves, including an outstanding 38 in the first two periods. All three goals came in the second period, with the Mavericks scoring on the power play to start. Austen Swankler scored less than a minute later to tie it, but Ryan Sandelin's goal gave the Mavericks a lead that stood for the rest of the game.

Scoring Plays
"It was great that we responded after they (Minnesota State) scored their first goal. We scored not too far after, which was good. We felt like the third was better. We had some chances to tie the game, which is what we wanted. If you take the first and the third, I think it's a really good hockey game with two good teams playing. In the second period, they played better than we did. Ultimately, that was the difference."

Scoring Plays
- After a scoreless first, Minnesota State capitalized on their second power play chance of the game. Halfway through the power play, Steven Bellini scraped the puck out of the corner, sending it up the Andy Carroll. He snapped a pass from the blue line to the right circle, hitting Christian Fitzgerald. The forward fired a shot that hit the bottom of the crossbar and across the goal line, tallying the first score of the night.
- Less than a minute later, the Falcons tied the game. Minnesota State controlled the puck behind their own net, but Austen Swankler forced a weak pass that was picked up by Chase Gresock. He pushed it to Dalton Norris at the blue line, who sent a cross-ice pass to Zach Vinnell. His shot from the point was tipped by Nathan Burke, then tipped again by Austen Swankler, who hit the back of the net. The sophomore's tally tied the game, with Burke and Vinnell earning the assists.
- With less than two minutes remaining in the middle frame, the Mavericks regained the lead. David Silye's shot from the point was redirected by Ondrej Pavel, then blocked by a Falcon defender. Ryan Sandelin attempted to backhand it from the crease to the top of the zone, but it hit the skate of another BGSU skater and trickled back into the net. Sandelin was credited with the goal, with assists going to Pavel and Silye.
