Falcons Stifled By No. 14 Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Bowling Green Falcons (13-13-3, 10-10-1-2) dropped their series opener to the No. 14 Michigan Tech Huskies (18-8-2, 15-5-1-1) by a score of 4-0. The game served as the opener for the Winter Carnival, hosted by Michigan Tech at MacInnes Ice Arena. MTU started fast with three goals in the opening frame, including a power play score. The Huskies padded their lead with another power play goal in the third period to move to 8-0-1 in 2022.

Scoring Plays
- The Huskies struck first, scoring less than four minutes into the contest. A pass from the point led to a top-shelf shot and score from Logan Pietila. Assists were credited to Colin Swoyer and Tommy Parrottino.
- MTU scored near the midpoint of the first period when they had a 5-on-3 advantage. After several shots were saved and blocked by the Falcons, Brian Halonen scooped in the loose puck from the crease. Tommy Parrottino and Tristan Ashbrook earned the assists.
- With just over a minute to go in the opening frame, Michigan Tech found the back of the net again. Brian Halonen's pass from the right boards was received by Tommy Parrottino, who made a behind-the-back pass to Trenton Bliss. Bliss spun and fired a five-hole shot for MTU's third score of the period.
- After a scoreless middle frame, the Huskies extended their lead in the third period with an early power play score. Trenton Bliss sent the puck below the goal line to Arvid Caderoth, who passed it across the crease to Colin Swoyer. Swoyer connected to notch his second point of the night.
- The Falcons held a 33-30 advantage in faceoffs, with Taylor Schneider leading the way at 14 faceoffs won.
- Christian Stoever spent the entire game in goal and made 30 saves. This marked the seventh 30-plus save performance of the freshman's career.
- Sam Craggs played in the 173rd game of his career, the fourth-highest total in program history. The forward can tie Marc Potvin for third place by playing tomorrow night.
