CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Bowling Green State University baseball program completed the second game of the three-game weekend series against Austin Peay on Saturday (Feb. 26). The Governors utilized an explosive first inning at the plate to take a 5-0 lead that spun into a 9-0 final. The loss moves BGSU to 2-3 on the young season. The Falcons will look to take the series finale on Sunday (Feb. 27), set for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Austin Peay jumped out to a hot start and loud first inning. The Governors began the inning with back-to-back singles followed by an RBI double to put the first run on the board before a sacrifice fly extended the lead to 2-0.
With one on and two out, the Governors used a walk to jump start another burst. After the walk APSU logged a double and single to tally three more runs before the end of the inning, leading 5-0.
After a scoreless second inning Austin Peay added a couple more to the scoreboard. A leadoff double setup an RBI single through the right side. Another double later in the inning added the seventh run of the game for the Governors.
Austin Peay tallied two more runs with a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh. A single and double put runners at second and third before a single brought both home to push the lead to 9-0.

FALCON STAT FACTS

Zack Horkey and Connar Penrod made their collegiate debuts for BGSU during the game. Horkey was a pinch hitter in the seventh while Penrod tossed three scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit.
Kyle Gurney logged his first double of the season for the Falcons.

Connar Penrod was outstanding in his Falcon debut. Three near perfect innings as a freshman against that lineup is impressive. Levi Gazarek took the ball and pitched with an edge. He had everything working and made some high level pitches for his first time on the mound this season."

UP NEXT
The Falcons will conclude the series against Austin Peay on Sunday (Feb. 27) for a 2:00 p.m. EST first pitch. Peyton Wilson will take the mound for Bowling Green, his second start of the season after picking up a win over Saint Louis last weekend.
