Falcons Fall To No. 1 Minnesota State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (13-11-3, 10-9-1-2) fell to the No. 1 Minnesota State Mavericks (27-5-0, 19-3-0-1) by a score of 5-0 on Saturday, Feb. 5. After a scoreless first period, MSU netted three goals in the second to gain a commanding lead. The Mavericks scored twice in the third period to clinch their 19th conference victory of the season.

"At the start of the second period, it's 0-0. We were in a better spot tonight after one than we were last night. Then you take a penalty early you have to kill, but they're a good team. You cannot shoot yourself in the foot against good teams."

Bowling Green will hit the road for a conference series with No. 15 Michigan Tech. It will be the first series of the season between the Falcons and Huskies. The series begins on Friday, Feb. 11 at 7:07 p.m. ET, then concludes at 5:07 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Both games will be played at the Macinnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton, Michigan.

Scoring Plays
- The Mavericks scored a power play goal early in the second period, with Ryan Sandelin scoring on a one-timer from the left side. He was fed the puck by Lucas Sowder, who earned one assist, with the other going to Sam Morton.
- Sandelin found twine a few minutes later. Reggie Lutz received his own rebound, then found Sandelin through traffic for another score. Lutz and Morton earned the assists.
- Julian Napravnik scored later in the period, using some nifty stick work to sneak the puck around from behind the net. Assists went to David Silye and Lucas Sowder.
- Late in the third, Reggie Lutz made a move around the back of the net and slipped a shot through the right side. Morton and Sandelin earned the assists.
- Toledo native Brendan Furry closed the scoring with a power play goal, going five-hole from the left side. Napravnik and Lutz were credited with the assists.
- Sam Craggs played in his 172nd career game for the Orange and Brown, moving him into a tie with Andy Gribble for fourth in program history.
- Christian Stoever made 21 saves, his fifth consecutive start with 20 or more saves.
- Bowling Green falls to 7-5-0-1 in the Slater Family Ice Arena.
