Falcons Return To The Road For Rumble With Ranked Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Bowling Green State University baseball program is back on the road for a three-game series against the No. 21-ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Traveling away from home against a ranked opponent, the Falcons will hope to continue their momentum from the Battle of I-75 for this series, being played at Bainton Field. The series will be available to watch on the Big Ten Network+.
Bowling Green is coming off a 3-2 series victory over rivals the Toledo Rockets. The Rockets were on an 11-game winning streak coming into the series so the Falcons will look to go up against the odds once again in a series against a nationally ranked opponent.

Scouting The Scarlet Knights
Rutgers welcomes in the Falcons as the No.21-ranked team in the country. Rutgers comes into this series off a two-to-one series loss to No. 22 Maryland. Rutgers currently leads the Big Ten in team batting average (.315) and are second in ERA (3.94) just behind Iowa (3.50). Even after the series loss to Maryland, Rutgers maintained their first-place status in the Big Ten conference with a 16-5 standing in the conference and 37-12 overall on the season.

The Falcons have only ever faced Rutgers one time before this upcoming series. In 1999, the two teams faced off in Homestead, Florida during Bowling Green's spring trip. Rutgers won the game 7-2 giving them the current overall series lead of 1-0.

The Falcons are coming off the Battle of I-75 against the Toledo Rockets which saw the Falcons win the series 3-2.
In game one, Toledo kept their hot form going with a 6-1 victory. The Falcons only run came in the sixth inning off an at-bat that included eight foul balls with a single by Kyle Gurney, who stole second and third. Nathan Rose came to the plate to hit a single and bring him home.
Bowling Green was able to put a stop to the Toledo winning streak at 12 games with a 7-6 win in game two. Toledo took a very early three-run lead in the first inning, but BGSU exploded with six-runs in the fourth inning. Adam Furnas got the runs flowing in the fourth with a three-run line drive home run to left field. A throwing error was able to bring home another run in the sixth, which was enough to hold off a late comeback attempt from Toledo.
Game three was a pitcher's duel ending in a 1-0 win for Toledo after a solo home run in the fourth inning for the Rockets.
Led by Nic Good in his first collegiate start, Bowling Green had a great all-around performance in a 7-1 win over Toledo in game four. Good threw four scoreless innings with Isaiah Seidel and Griffin Parrill joining him to only give up a combined one run over nine innings. The Falcons had double-digit hits with 10, being clinical at the plate and finding pockets in the infield. Adam Fallon and Justin Fugitt both went 2-for-3 in the game with Fallon bringing in two RBI and Fugitt adding a triple and an RBI.
Game five was a battle until the end at Fifth Third Field with the Falcons sneaking away with a late 5-4 win to take the series 3-2. With Adam Furnas on third in the eighth inning, Nathan Rose came to the plate to execute a squeeze play to perfection to bring Furnas home and give the win to Bowling Green to capture the rivalry series.
