BGSU Concludes Season With Doubleheader Split at NIU on Friday

DeKalb, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University baseball program split a doubleheader with the Northern Illinois Huskies on Friday (May 20). An electric first game at the plate for the Falcons headlined their performance with 11 hits and 12 runs as BGSU won 12-6. A two-out surge from Bowling Green in the second inning got the momentum started, scoring six runs off a barrage of clinical at-bats. Spots of two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one in the seventh were enough to stifle the Huskies from finding a comeback. The Falcons were led by a four RBI game from Nathan Archer in the victory. The momentum flipped in favor of NIU in game two with the flurry of 16 hits being too much for the Falcons to overcome as NIU won the series finale, 16-6, in a seven-inning affair.
This series marked the conclusions of the season for both programs.

This series marked the conclusions of the season for both programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
- BGSU began the scoring in the top of the second all with two outs. Nathan Rose hit a single to center field before moving to second on a wild pitch. Tyler Haas stepped up to the plate and hit a double to right center to bring in the first run to put the Falcons up, 2-0.
- Mason Montgomery earned a walk before Adam Fallon kept the Falcons flying with a single to center to bring home Tyler Haas. Another wild pitch moved the runners up before Nathan Archer drilled a double to left center to clear the bases to make it 4-0 Falcons.
- Jack Krause drew a walk and stole second before another wild pitch brought home Nathan Archer and moved Krause to third. A single to left field by Kyle Gurney brought home Jack Krause to launch Bowling Green in front, 6-0.
- In the top of the 4th, back-to-back singles from Adam Fallon and Nathan Archer set up Jack Krause for a sacrifice fly to plate Adam Fallon. Kyle Gurney continued with a single to right center to bring home Nathan Archer extending the Falcons lead, 8-0.
- A sacrifice fly and a bases clearing single up the middle for NIU in the bottom of the fourth to bring the game to 8-3.
- Bowling Green responded quick to get their lead back out to eight. Tyler Haas hit a double down the left field line to bring home Jared Johnson. Adam Fallon drew a walk to bring Nathan Archer to the plate to clear the bases again on a single to right field for an 11-3 lead.
- Mason Montgomery was able to reach first base on an error moving forward to third to score off a wild pitch bringing the Falcons to a 12-3 lead in the top of the seventh.
- NIU was able to put up a trio of extra base hits in the bottom of the seventh to close the game out at 12-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
- In the bottom of the first in game two, the Huskies would take a 1-0 with a solo home run to left center in their first at bat of the game.
- NIU extended their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the second off 5 hits.
- The Huskies put up two doubles in the bottom of the fourth to add a couple more runs, 8-0
- BGSU brought two-runs back in the top of the fifth with a home run to right field by Jared Johnson and a Zack Horky double where he moved to third off a wild pitch before Gavin Gunan did enough on a grounder to get Zack Horky home, 8-2.
- NIU added six in the bottom of the fifth from a solo-home run and three doubles to make it 14-2.
- NIU extended the lead to 15-2 with a solo-home run in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Falcons brought three runs back in the top of the seventh. Back-to-back singles by Zack Horky and Mason Montgomery to set up Adam Fallon to single and bring home Zack Horky. Nathan Archer stepped up to the plate and hit a single to right to plate Mason Montgomery. Adam Fallon was able to reach the plate on a wild pitch bringing the score to 15-5.
- An error in the field was able to enough was bring home Nathan Archer to make it a 15-6 NIU lead.
- The Huskies would add another run in the bottom of the seventh to close out the game, 16-6.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- Adam Fallon went 4-for-5 with 4 R and 2 RBI in the double-header.
- Nathan Archer scored a run in six of the last seven games for the Falcons with a total of three runs on the day. His four RBI's were the most on the season and the most in his Falcon's career.
- Jared Johnson's homer in game two was his third on the season which equals his total from last season.
