HOW IT HAPPENED
- Youngstown State tallied three runs in the top of the first, including a two-run home run, to take a quick 3-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the second, Nathan Rose and Leighton Banjoff singled to start the inning. Gavin Ganun joined them on the base paths, drawing a walk. Cooper McKenzie followed with a bases loaded walk to score the first BGSU run of the game.
- Justin Fugitt was next up and knocked a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Banjoff to make it a 3-2 Youngstown State lead through two innings.
- The Penguins had a three-run home run in the top of the third to extend their lead to 6-2.
- The Falcons responded in the bottom of the fourth with four runs to knot it up. Mason Montgomery and McKenzie singled to start the inning. Montgomery moved up on a fly out before scoring on a pass ball to make it 6-3.
- Sam Seidel drew a walk before Kyle Gurney singled to load the bases. Nathan Archer walked as well to bring home a run with the bases loaded, making the score 6-4.
- Nathan Rose followed with a fielder's choice grounder that included a throwing error trying to turn two, allowing two more runs to score for the Falcons and tie it up at 6-6 through four innings played.
- The sixth inning saw the Falcons jump out in front with six runs. Ganun was hit by a pitch followed by a Montgomery walk to put two on. Fugitt then sent a moon shot to right field for a three-run blast to make it a 9-6 BGSU lead.
- After the home run, Seidel doubled to right center before stealing third. Gurney joined him on the bases via a walk before an Archer double to the right field corner scored both Seidel and Gurney. Archer was thrown out going for third.
- The final BGSU run of the inning came from a solo home run off the bat of Rose to right field, making it a 12-6 BGSU lead.
- The runs continued for the Falcons in the bottom of the sixth with four more runs, all coming with two outs in the inning. Fugitt began the rally by drawing a walk and stealing second. Seidel was then hit by a pitch with both runners advancing on a pass ball. Gurney then drew another walk to load the bases. Archer also walked, bringing home a run to make it 13-6.
- Another passed ball allowed Seidel to score as well before a two-RBI double to right center by Rose cleared the bases and pushed the BGSU advantage to 16-6.
- In the eighth inning, Seidel singled to center field before Anthony Toma clobbered a pinch hit two-run home run to left field, his second home run in as many games, to give BGSU an 18-6 lead and win.
